Well, VKU Harmanec hardly publishes something unrealistic, that´s why I was surprised, but pleasantly. Obviously, R49 is now I think priority connection to SK and it will be completed sooner. Also I/50 got nice improvement, with Bánov bypass now U/C.

Well that could be also because Slovakia was poorer part of this dual state

The difference in wealth wasn't so big it would justify such inequality in length and density of motorways.

Population density probably was a factor... and the mountainous nature of much of central Slovakia.

Slovakia was poorer, now the gap is narrowing.
Ratio of total lenght of motorways and expressways/population is approximately 1000km/10,3 mil. and ca. 500km/5,4 mil, so about the same.

Czech Republic isn't totally flat too. What I miss there is direct connection of Bratislava and Banská Bystrica via Nitra (present R1) and there should be also some transit corridor between Poland and Hungary (although not necessarily motorway in its full length.)

But, since there isn't and Poles are progressing quite fast with their S69 it will be like this:

There are some EU plans for a "north-south" corridor: Poland-Slovakia-Hungary and the final plan is a baltic/adriatic sea connection.

That's S-19 in Poland going through Rzeszow (north-south) intersecting future A4 (east-west). It's actually in quite advanced stages.

Detailed info:

Look for S19 tenders.

In Prague are now under construction two rings, both with grade crossings and high capacity road parameters.
I don´t think there are many countries in Europe, that construct simultaneously two rings around the capital, if any.

Motorways: Czech government to spend $6.6 billion

The Czech government plans to spend US$6.6 billion on motorway construction in 2010.

The budget of the State Road Infrastructure Fund (SFDI) will be increased, and the state will also issue bonds to fund motorway projects.

The biggest spending, $386 million, will be on a motorway through Ceske Stredohori, a mountain range, followed by the Tabor-Ceske Budejovice road and the southern section of the Prague ring road.

In a separate development, local authorities in Vyskov plan to build a western bypass of the town to ease traffic. Construction of the two-lane road is expected to start in 2020.
worldhighways.com

Good news. 6.6 billion dollars is significant, that's twice the amount of money spend in the Netherlands. (which has 6 million more inhabitants and has 1.5 times higher GDP per capita).
