Yes, it is a 8,5 km long section of new road, containing 6,8 km of a brand new full profile motorway. Also next 5 km will be newly marked as motorway to complete the first motorway section in Southern Bohemian Region.

Well, there is hardly any difference. They have the same color signs, same max.speed, very similar planning parameters, altough expressways may be narrower, may have steeper grades (but max. difference to motorways is 0,5%) and other details that came out historicaly (crash-barriers, SOS system, maintainance) and in actual standards are diminished.

The difference came out in 70's, when there was an official plan of motorway net, connetcing the whole country, and expressways were set up for less important 4-laned roads with regional character. Their parameters were formerly much worse than nowadays.

Today the difference is much more administrative (expressways are in the sense of law acts only 1st class roads (only special signed), while motorways have their own law category. But practicaly, as a driver, you can use it totally the same way as the motorway (130 kph, pay by coupons or el.toll).

That's the reason that also the official places are thinking about merging these two categories of roads together and make a new one with standards for a better 2 and 4-laned road (e.g. with 100 or 110 kph limit) to make the difference more capable.... But its still a long way....

If there is any blue sign, it still is a regular 1st class road, even if it was built in expressway parameters at some part (there was this R4 x I/20 crossing, where the expressway R4 will end but the main part with signs counts to I/20; and the second example was I/48 near Český Těšín, where R48 ended just few hundred meters before).

Green sign means "you can drive 130 kph" (as far as there is not any other limitation, e.g. in urban areas 80 kph is the maximum for motorways and expressways).

Blue sign means "90 kph" at all (again, as far as any other limitations exist, in urban areas 50 kph is the general limit).

I think it could be done at the end of 2009 or begining of 2010 (together with polish part) if construction already started. Did it start?

A construction has not been started. The selection of contractor is in progress and the completing is scheduled for the year 2010.

Nice tour. The motorway looks very nice. I was confused by the radio readout- what was 5,31/100?
I was also struck by the KFC with the words drive-thru and restaurant it was just like it would appear here in the US.

It is consumption - 5,3 litres / 100 kms

KFC and McD drive-thru/in are worldwide, we have many of them as well

St. hranice means border if i'm correct, i haven't seen this that way in western Czechia. I have never visited eastern Czechia.

In Poland, on our part od D1, A1 we have given distance to the nearest town(village) near border, which is Gorzyczki(1900 inhabitants) which is incredibely stupid
