The First group of pictures were taken from the south facing 14th floor Balcony of 10 State house Square. The "ING" Building.
Looking East at the other half of SH square. You can also see The Uconn School of Business and XL insurance building in Constitution Plaza. ![]() Looking SE. foreground is 90 SH Square. Then the Phoenix Building, the new convention center Marriot, Travelers downtown Campus and the edge of central row. ![]() Central Row with the Travelers tower looming overrhead. and down in the foreground the old state house with surrounding plaza. ![]() I zoomed in to get a view of the Hospital in the background. and in the foreground you have a famous building I do not exactly know because I just moved here :P ![]() Bank of America building with UTC World HQ behind it. The top 20 or so floors of BOA are being converted to condos or apartments IIRC ![]() A better shot of the Old Statehouse and its park and plaza. ![]() Looking West we have City Place 1 and 2 in front of it. 111 Pearl Street, Hartford 21, and a partially obscured "The Hartford" tower in the background. ![]() Another shot down Main street looking South ![]() I shot zoomed in on the Phoenix and the Science Center going up next door on the riverfront ![]() Kind of re hashing other picture but a different angle ![]() rehash ![]() Just wanted to zoom in on the Old Colt Factory (blue dome) behind the convention center and framed by Travelers and Mariott ![]() City Steem, in the downtown Mariott building. Next to The Sage Allen building which is now just opened apartments. You can see the future site of Kyto pan asian resturant and wine bar. and if you look closely you can see some timber on the roof as part of the roof top bar being built. You can also see the ground floor of Sage Allen has signs for "Dine" the bar and grille that is being built there. This areas is really turning into an entertainment district as it is at the end of Pratt street. ![]() Sage Allen and my Office, 10 SH Square. ![]() Central row, BOA, UTC, and the burger king building in the foreground ![]() ![]() kind of making a panorama now armt I ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() City Steam Brewerys patio. My favorite place in Hartford for a Pint and Nachos. Also the friday and Saturday Comedy is a great bargain.

I like the mountains that the big and small cities are surrounded by.
Isn't there a mountain called "The Sleeping Giant" near Cheshire? I think someone told me about that once, and it is supposed to have the shape of a man laying down. |

They are building the CT Science center on the water.
http://ctsciencecenter.org/ it should be very nice and apparently will more than double the size of the riverside park that I have posted a picture of. |

Middletown (pop ~ 45,000) had an active an attractive downtown when I visited in 2004. I suspect it's still going strong and probably improving. All pics taken in or near downtown.

Downtown New Britain (and the immediate area) are in bad shape. Lots of abandonment. I was kind of surprised to find out the crime rate was about average, and quite a bit lower than Waterbury. The population is a bit over 70,000. I hope the city's downtown has been erjuvenated since I took these pics back in 2004.

Thought I better visit a coastal city in the state, and ended up in New London (pop ~ 26,000). Not too bad, and I like seaports anyway. I looked up the crime stats, and though they're higher than average, they are trending downward.

Since I've bored you enough with the above entries, thought I better stop it now with Norwich. From the same trip as the others.

Pictures can be decieving.
New London is not all bad these days with Pfizer having built their huge campus there. the casinos expanding and all that, but Norwich is a long way from being actually nice. there are still a great deal of nice historic buildings there, but Much like Waterbury there needs to be a great deal of gentrification before anyone can call them nice |

... ... ...WOW!!!It may not be Connecticut week but I must bring back one of the best photo turnouts for the "State of the Week" threads. We asked for pictures and the good people of Connecticut answered. CT is full of cities with all kinds of interesting architecture. They may be smaller but none the less they are cities and so many for a state of Connecticut's size. Then there's Hartford. The city is bigger than most people give it credit for. At least it seems to be a good size from the looks of downtown. I think people should start saying "New York, Hartford, Boston."

Well, I saw this thread back on top of the heap, and in the spirit of sharing, I am posting the link to a photothread I have going on urbanplanet.
http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/Ha...es-t44887.html UP has the most active Hartford/CT section on line and their format is much nicer than this site in my opinion, so I contribute much more over there. I am thinking about moving to Baltimore and even though its got a special section over here its still a damn mess here. I wish UP had an active Baltimore section, but I suppose larger forums are harder to "police" The pictures start out as a repeat of what I posted here then keeps going. there are pictures of the continuing construction downtown including 410 Asylum, the science center, the public safety complex, and other projects |
