Yes, that's the lorry-overtaking ban trial scheme through Dunkerque. Those signs have been there for the last ten years. I don't know how long this trial scheme is supposed to last...

Busy commuter sections and agglomerated areas in France are never tolled and is run by the state. This part of the A16 that is not tolled runs through Boulogne, Calais and Dunkerque.

D383, Périphérique Lyon

Some photos of D383, the périphérique (beltway) of Lyon.

Entering the périphérique from A42.

D383-1 by Chriszwolle, on Flickr

the northern périphérique has a toll tunnel.

D383-3 by Chriszwolle, on Flickr

The D383 is actually the only north-south connection with six lanes through Lyon. A6-A7 narrows to four lanes through the Fourvière Tunnel, and N346 is also four lanes (and loaded with trucks). This makes D383 a nice alternate route towards Marseille (A46-A42-D383-A7).

D383-6 by Chriszwolle, on Flickr

These photos were taken around 9 a.m. on a work day. Traffic is very good.

D383-9 by Chriszwolle, on Flickr

interchange with A43.

There is a roadway split to get across a hill.

Railroad crossing!

Probably some industrial track.

Hehe, I also wondered if that railroad crossing opens often. It's not something you see in your average urban expressway.

A55, Marseille

A drive across A55 into Marseille, from the A7 interchange to the tunnel at Vieux Port. It gives a great view of the port and city center, the roadway splits around a skyscraper.

No, about 10 time by year and deep during the night (with police escort).
This track links a factory (JST Transformateurs) to a main railway line.
JST Transformateurs builds big electric transformers for power plants, this can't be carried by anything other than train (or boat).

The factory located in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon.

D141 Route des Crêtes

The D141 is a departmental road from Cassis to La Ciotat along the Mediterranean Sea east of Marseille. It is chiefly a tourist road.

Some photos:

1. There are plenty of parking areas where you can admire the view. This is looking west across Cassis and the Calanques.

Cassis, France by Chriszwolle, on Flickr

2. The road is closed if there's too much wind - people could be blown off the 300 meter high cliffs.

3. View of the Calanques south of Marseille.

6. There is a 30% incline going down to Cassis. It is only indicated as such downhill.

The arrival in Marseille on both A7 and A55 is quite scenic.

The A55 is also a very notorious motorway. Marseille is one of the most dangerous cities in Europe, with drugs coming from Corsica, North Africa, South America and Afghanistan (by ship via Turkey). The A55 runs alongside a few estates in Marseille that are no-go areas for the police. Here is where the drugs is being distributed. The motorway itself is being used for drug transports between Spain and Marseille. This happens with high speeds and often in convoys of up to 5 cars. Once the drugs reaches one of the estates, the cargo is save, as the police never goes there. Gangs have their own patrols throughout the estates, which - as I said - a lot of them are along the A55.

Are there long-term plans to bury or put in trenches more sectors of Boulevard Periferique?
