although I prefer the german one, I think the french signage is more poetic compared to german which is more simple, stable and effective.

Got some other foreign language signs in French (excuse the links, I couldn't be bothered to make print screens). These are all on the E40 between Calais and Dunkirk. I'm sure I've seen English signs on other tourist routes in France though.

Some aerial pictures of the construction of Autoroute A4 south of Reims. The current A4 runs through the city and is often congested with a boatload of exits. The new route will improve east-west traffic and gives an opportunity to bypass Reims.

Belgium's "Touring" rates France's roads:

(Sorry, it's in French)

A quick check of Google maps and aerial images shows that that is the A26. It also looks like the 'Ticket' tollgate on the A26 just northwest of town is being moved to be right tight at the new A-4 interchange.

Interesting project.

The A4 west of Reims has an open toll system. Exits are spaced very far apart here, usually over 20 kilometers. The section east of Reims has a closed toll system until Metz, and then a single barrier near Forbach. I don't know about the situation further to Strasbourg.

I guess the new Reims bypass will be incorporated with the closed toll system, maybe even all the way to Paris. It would make sense to have a closed ticket system all the way from Paris to Metz.

Dormans toll plazza is being deleted so in 2011 it will be possible to drive from Metz to Montreuil aux Lions toll plazza via Reims southern bypass, unfortunately the Coutevroult toll plazza will remains

I live there for almost a year but never knew this is already happening, but indeed it is necessary the highway passing right through the city center is really annoying.
