Still way better than crossing Cannes and then L'Estérel mountain range. I had a lot of fun in DN7 there, but with A8 you can drive the same route in a tenth of the time.

And A8 may be twisty and have low speed limits, but it's very well mantained and well, it doesn't get much better than that for motorways going through such terrain.

I beg to differ here. Coming from Italian A10 you can sense the decrease in maintenance and overall quality. And A10 is bad, too

Definetely one of the most interesting motorway section in Europe. I saw it from a bus window and it was really awesome. The number of tunnels and viaducts, especially on the italian part is simply amazing.

For people who want to save money .You avoid toll highways of the south (A7-A9-A61).And to discover some nice places.

One of the most beautiful highways to drive on.It's only my opinion.
Even if there are too many tunnels due to the mountains.
A bad side: pavements in italian tunnels. Very dangerous when a driver losts the control of his vehicle. Big concentration is necessary.

I concur here

I don't understand. France has the smoothest roads in the world.

I know and love France from Calais to Cannes, and Nancy to Nantes, and apart from a few local roads and state owned motorways, the majority of the French network is in a state of the art condition. Holland and France have the best roads, compared to any other nation in Europe. Belgium and Poland are among the worst.

Natonal Roads in better condition in Germany or Austria, especially Alpine Roads. But for me 2+1 and 2+2 sections are much more important.
