I've been in France too, just returned from Oloron now. I entered through the Col de la Pierre St. Martin to Arette, from there to Oloron and then on E07 back to my hometown. I noted a big difference on E07 (RN134) from just a few years ago, they have improved the road a lot. I believe it is because of the big increase of heavy traffic since the opening of Somport tunnel.

I stayed 4 days at a campsite near Saint-Brieuc and one night in a Premiere Classe hotel in Melun, just outside Paris.

Hope the hotel was ok, Melun is a bit of a deprived shithole...

I guessed it was better than a low-budget hotel in some of the Petite Couronne suburbs.

Premiere Classe hotels are normally pretty good. It would have been better if they served proper breakfasts...

The road to Cap Fréhel in Bretagne. It's scenic and touristic.

The largest rest area (aire) in France: Montélimar along A7. It's almost 1 km². It has approximately 200 parking spaces for trucks.

La village de Catalan on the A9 is pretty big as well, same with the one on the A10 near Poitiers.

I noticed that they didn't sign the E401 down the A16 to Paris, unlike most of the junctions south of the A29.

So this week I'm going to get some sort of pass from the ANWB which states those alcohol testers are sold out so we can't do anything about the fact not having the alcohol tester in my car. So much effort for something so lame. I'm leaving next week on wednesday for Castellane, in les Alpes Maritimes. Excited for the scenery on the way. I've driven the A31 and Belgium-Luxembourg route at least 10 times already so nothing exciting there, rather boring. I'm excited for Dijon-Lyon and Lyon-Grenoble-Cannes. I love the A40 (which we won't drive on this year) so I hope the roads are quite alike. I'm staying the night in a hotel in Lyon right off the highway. Seems to be cool since it's going straight through the citycenter of Lyon. Also excited for the A8. Already been on the Italian A10 multiple times and loved it. Great pics Chris.

Given that I've ranted about why people in the UK thread rant about the A74(M)'s number, and I've said that they don't rant in the French thread about the numbering of the A6/A7 or A71/A75 and that we're trying to push this to the next page to get more Normandy/Brittany pictures...

...why does the A71-A75 have two numbers? Unlike the A6/A7 it's not like they were built from opposite ends and joined up. The bottom end of the A71 and the top end of the A75 opened at the same time. Why the different numbers?

Good question. I don't know the reason for sure. A71 was mainly a fast-constructed concession road, while A75 was older and more fragmented. I think the first sections of A75 were constructed as a part of the N9, and later renumbered. Apparently the number A75 was introduced around the same time A71 was finished in the late 1980s.
