I didnt ask if Hitler was popular in Israel. Mel Gibson is just an actor and a movie director.

No, he's not, thanks to the Passion of Christ. Either that or because his films simply suck.

I find his movies boring , but he made tons of money on the Passion of the Christ. I only like him as the actor.

That's probably the main reason why he made the Passion of the Christ so provocative.

I've heard he made it b/c he wanted make it this way for long long years. It was just form of expressing his own views on the matter (he shares his father's view on Jews as "murderers of G-d" etc.).
Maybe he decided that "freedom of expression" will allow him to do that this way and "reversed" political correctness (stating you cannot criticize someone's view b/c it would "violate" freedom of expression) is good as much as the original political correctness was ![]() And yes, money is always on the top at the end. There are many ppl wanting to see tortured half-naked man. In Poland there were even group showings organized by schools for pupils ("Polish edition" of Christianity sucks ).

More fascinating questions!
Would I be able to live a comfortable life in Israel if I don't speak Hebrew? Furthermore, does Israel encourage immigrants to be part of a melting-pot or is the approach more about cultural diversity? It seems to me that Israeli society likes to culturally assimilate newcomers, eh?

Israelis are obsessed with English, you can get along speaking only English very well. An acquaintance of mine from the States complained that too little unofficial signs provide an English translation, so you may want to take that into consideration. As for your second question, Israel probably prefers the melting pot approach.

Interesting. Incidentally, I remember reading a blog a few years ago about some girl living in Israel who had a friend with small children in Israel. Her friend made a point of trying to speak only English to the kids so they'd be fluent in English, but she couldn't keep it up. For example, she'd say some words in Hebrew (i.e. sandwich), because they're easier to remember. It must be different when you have small children who want to "fit in," eh?

Is there a lot of neo-nazis in Israel? Were they all born in the former Soviet Union? Do they have Jewish ancestry?

most of them comes from broken homes and can't realy make a life of their own, so they turn onto other groups that can take them, such as the Neo-Natzi underground groups.

Question: How is Israel coping with excessive population density? As in, how do you (as inhabitants of Israel) see your country in 2050? I read some projections that by this time:
1. Israel will have something like 15.000.000 people on something like 22.000 sq. km. (of which the Southern half is sparsely populated anyway). 2. Maybe the sea level will be 1 meter higher, that might take some bits of the already narrow central part of Israel and bring salinity to some aquifiers. 3. The Palestinian state (let's hope one will finally be carved up say 2015) will likely also have some 10.000.000 people meaning nearly urban density levels. I know Israel is maybe the most resourceful country on the face of the Earth so I am quite curious if some solutions to lack of water, agricultural and living space are being thought through. 10-x for an eventual answer. |
