The Cairo Airport Company (CAC) has launched a $400 million (USD) project which includes construction of Terminal 3 and other improvements, partially financed by the World Bank. ARINC was chosen through a competitive tender process under World Bank procurement rules, and ranked first in both financial and technical evaluations.

Model of Cairo International Airport Terminal 3The IT portion of the project is valued at $22 million (USD). ARINC will provide CAC with extensive design, project management, supply management, installation, and commissioning for 14 mission-critical airport IT systems, from passenger check-ins and displays to biometric gates and ramp control. The Terminal will open in early 2008.

The massive project confirms ARINC’s position as a leading airports integrator, and will feature three major firsts: the first context-aware platform for airport ramp management in the world—automatically switching IT applications according to user profiles; the first self-service CUSS installation in the Middle East region—with ARINC SelfServ™ to speed passengers through check-in; and the first custom Biometric Immigration Gate (BIG) System in Egypt—for streamlined emigration and immigration control.

“Cairo International Airport desires more than just a contractor for its Information Technology Systems (ITS). I thought the new terminal was supposed to double the airport's capacity upon its completion. What's the new number, 20,000,000? It will probably accommodate slightly less than that number.

Maybe Air france, KLM and Alitalia? some members of Skyteam?

I don't know but last year I flew with a full KLM 747-400 and at the same time a Egypt Air flight from Luxor was landed and the arrival hall of terminal 1 was so crowded it took me 2 hours for the passport control. :eek:hno:
