The shape is ok for such a small building but I hope it has an all-glass facade. Glass has been proven a good way to jazz up a street. Just look at the NAB Bank Building when driving West on that road (can't remember the name). Glass like that of Gateway Plaza would look just great in this location.

Cariad: That looks like one hot library. These people certainly know how to build a stylish library, obviously because they have a clean glass facade on one side. And those blades look like pages of a book. What a sexy building!

Cul: don't know where else to put this one:-
New library @ Macquarie Uni, 4 storeys, $70m. Architect: fjmt (Francis-Jones, Morepen & Thorpe. Completion: 2010. Looks kinda spectacular and for the glass fetishists, it's a winner.

Well, it's just a bit of facadism & that is hard to do well. The clyndrical support columns of the new section on the George St side are trying to complement the older ordered columns of the historic facade. Whether that works well or not is an individual matter. Looks quite high-tech from street level with the suspended office floors and perimeter framing. The York Street facade is quite different and is all new.

Thanks for the pic Ron II.

Today I was walking around Walsh Bay and noticed that Bond One was topped out. It's the last of the Walsh Bay maritime redevelopment and is a 7-8 storey 9000 sqm office block. I think they could have designed it to fit in a little more with the heritage of the area, I'm sure there's token things they could have done to at least subtly integrate it a bit better -

http://property.sthilliers.com.au/in...d=279&Itemid=0

Project Details
Bond One
26 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay

Project End Value
$77 million

St Hilliers is developing in joint venture with MREEF5 a commercial office building on the site of a former Bond Store in Walsh Bay.

The site is a leasehold parcel of land with DA consent for the construction of a new eight level A-grade commercial/retail development. The new building will comprise 9000 square metres of nett lettable area and parking for 175 cars.

St Hilliers and MREEF5 are aiming to develop an environmentally efficient building with a rating higher than the currently proposed rate of 4.5 ABGR. This will reduce the need for high operating costs and offer an attractive incentive for prospective tenants. All levels of the building will receive good natural light and some will have city and harbour views. The centrally located lift/services core will enable multi-tenant occupancy.

St Hilliers will be the Development Manager for the project with key responsibilities for project management, the design and construction, and leasing of the new building.

I also noticed on the weekend that the new theatre on Cope Street in Redfern is nearing completion and has a great Aboriginal facade. If anyone is in the area try and get some pics.

...a nine storey building that will look almost exactly the same as the building they're demolishing. Hooray for heritage theme parks!
