I live about 4 miles from where Lenny Henry was born so I've been very much aware of him all my life! I love how he ties in his local roots with his Jamaican heritage. He's funny but I can see why some people think he's slightly out of date. However, he still manages to get his own series so he must be doing something right.

I dont have anything against the guy, in fact, when he was in Chef I thought he was quite enjoyable to watch.

I dod struggle to remember anything by lenny henry that I've really liked, however I give him much respect for his charity work through heading comic releif with others.

Apparently June Sarpong of T4 has an OBE. Apparently she has done a lot of charity work, which is lucky because if she was ever awarded for services to television I would personally break into the grounds of buckingham palace and do a poo on the lawn.

Lenny Henry is about as funny as a kick in the baws. I'm slightly surprised that there aren't more black comedians that have broken through. Richard Blackwood was nearly funny for a while but soon disappeared up his own arse. There's gotta be others surely?

I like Lenny Henry! He was my childhood role model and I still think fantastic today! He's the only comedian who doesn't say crude jokes that I actually like!

While I'm by no means a fan of lenny henry, I'm appalled by the idea of anybody actually agreeing with Ricky Gervais. Although not as appalled as by the realisation that some people consider his mediocrity funny.

Most here who cant find Lenny Henry the slightest bit funny are most probably white.

If you cant/dont relate then its understandable.

Although, being black myself I find acts such as Peter Kay funny, but Ricky Gervais and that fat guy with the pint in his hand, not so much so.

I'm a bit drunk at the mo so I almost took great offence to what you say there. Thankfully i've just read it and appreciate what you're saying. I think you may be right. Although I find some other black comedians (mostly US) like richard pryor, chris rock, eddy murphy (once upon a time) etc. funny so I do still think its a case of whether thy are actually funny.

However I take your point - that Woman, Geena something (was on celbrity fame academy for comic relief??) I don't find funny cos she just seems to try and be funny by acting out a certain chracter. And you're right I don't relate, but I don't think she is a poor comedian cos I don't cringe at her jokes or anything. I just don't get it. Whereas sometimes you hear a lenny henry joke and think, "right, I do know what you're refering to but that wasn't funny".

I hope the strongbow hasn't stopped me from saying what I mean clearly.
