Just come across these two interesting new renders of Mediacity. Pretty much up to date as well. (8/10/09) www.worldarchitecturenews.com

Quote:
MediaCityUK becomes first BREEAM recognised sustainable community
Peel’s MediaCityUK has become the first development in the world to receive a BREEAM approved sustainable community status, incorporating leading technology and solutions into the design of the £500m development. Phase 1 of MediaCityUK has included many features to meet the BREEAM criteria, in particular using its greatest asset, water from the Manchester Ship Canal in the production of power, heating and cooling for the buildings on the 36-acre site.

Buildings including the 371 apartments, the 216-bed-hotel and the seven HD and two audio studios will benefit from the use of a combined heat and power plant energy system known as Tri-Gen, which has many benefits including reducing Co2 emissions.

David Glover, Construction Director for Peel, said: “We have developed an extremely good relationship with BRE Global and are proud to become the first sustainable community in the world. We will continue to work with BRE Global and our partners to ensure MediaCityUK continues to explore new ways of being sustainable”.

BREEAM Communities certification helps planners and developers improve measures and independently certify the sustainability of development proposals at the planning stage.

Chapman Taylor’s Manchester team has been working on the detailed design and the delivery of the project, with Phase 1 completing early next year.
Renders from http://www.chapmantaylor.com/index.a...7&languageID=1.

You can just make out the new bridge in the first render.(bottom left corner) I think we're going to see lot's of night shots of Mediacity in the future.

The second render shows how the plaza will look.

they look completely up to date from what i've seen with planning and what's under construction now.

i find it shows up how odd it is that the metrolink is given no path to expand to trafford, and that bridge is just for feet.

I'm sure the bridge will be 'wheelchair-friendly' commy.

Well, I suppose a a metrolink bridge will be kinda pricey..however..they could then have had maybe one tram, endlessley circling the quays area...now that would be handy to get around.

A few renders of the proposed bridge. For those that haven't seen them before.

I'm still not keen on it. A. Those cables look messy going across the full width of the bridge. B. The fan of poles located in the middle of the brigde completely blocks the view into Mediacity as you walk on to and along the bridge.

Media City Swing Bridge
Location: Salford, Manchester

The exemplar mechanical, electrical, control and hydraulic design and specification of the Media City Swing bridge was carried out by M G Bennett and Associates Ltd. Whilst employed by Bennetts, Michael Thorogood was responsible for the detailed exemplar design and specification of the mechanical, electrical, control and hydraulic elements.

As part of the development of Media City in Salford, soon to become home to several departments of the BBC, a swing bridge was required to provide a pedestrian and cycle link between areas of the development. The bridge is required to move to allow navigation of the Manchester Ship Canal.

The additional members of the design team were the structural consultant Gifford & Partners LLP and the architect Wilkinson Eyre. Various options and designs were investigated and presented to the client. A design was selected for development to tender stage.

The final design is an 83m long bridge consisting of a nose span of 65m with a tail span of 18m. In order to allow the passage of vessels the bridge rotates about a vertical axis through 71 degrees.

yes, for peel, as it might mean the metrolink finding its way to 'the trafford centre' and (supposedly) taking all peel's happy shoppers away by letting them skip into manchester city centre. forget the fact that there are 60,000 students and 10's of thousands of car-less people in south manchester with no convenient way to get to 'the trafford centre' right now but there would be if metrolink went there. if manchester's population keeps expanding the way it is now peel will miss all these extra inhabitants. and then there's the demise of the car.

BBC formally gets Media City keys today
14 Oct 2009, 10:22

Media City UK developer and owner, Peel Media, will officially hand over Building C to the BBC for internal fit-out in preparation for becoming operational in 2011.

BBC staff toured the building yesterday and the corporation's invited guests will have the chance to look around the building after the lunchtime ceremony today.

The BBC is due to move 2,500 staff to Salford at the end of 2010, start of 2011. This will involve relocating five London-based departments, along with all local and network broadcasting currently operating out of Manchester city centre. Around 45% of London staff said they will relocate, leaving 800 posts to be filled by the BBC in Salford.

New Channel M video on todays handing over to the BBC. Think there might be a new flythrough as well?

Hazel Blears turned up for the free drumsticks and sausage rolls. Apparently she was also caught trying to sneak out of the do with Prawn vol-au-vents down her knickers. (phew!)
