Chester station has them just before a staircase, so its not impossible. Something tells me that we'll have the access removed and EMT will just say "tough luck".

Well, even if they do remove the access, where would the barriers go? There'd still be people queuing on the stairs to leave the station.
I think they'd have to out them at the bottom of the stair to keep traffic on the bridge flowing.

I’m not a fan of barriers. It’s a ball-ache, another queue to join.
Must be around 20 years since we last had them I can only see two ways 1. Barriers are put at the bottom of the stairs on both island platforms. Barriers would not be required at the bottom of the stairs on main concourse as Platform 1 has separate access. This should give through access across the bridge. 2. Barriers are put at both ends of the bridge. A ticket office would be necessary on Granville Street entrance for passengers requiring access to the station from Supertram. |

Yeah, you're right there 1889. If we have to have barriers, option 1 is preferential. If it has to be option 2, they need to allow access to Supertram customers, maybe by changing tram tickets to the style used on most trains?

Bugger! Forgot about the lifts on option 1 - they would require barriers on the bridge and the concourse.
1889! that was a good year - Moved from Bramall Lane to Olive Grove |

Think you'd just have inspectors like at most stations to let wheelchair users through?
You left in 1889? At least you took the smell with you...

It is hard to see where they will put the barriers, because the easy option would be at the top where the trams are, and at the bottom near burger king. But of course that means people cant use the bridge for trams, etc.
But if they put barriers at the bottom of each set of stairs, thats alot more barriers, and that wouldnt leave much room for people to go through barriers to the platform, and for people to leave the platform.

I saw the Yorcard smartcard up and working on a stagecoach 52 this afternoon. It can currently only be used by people with senior citizen and disabled national concession passes at the moment. Will have to wait until June before the the electronic travel purse is introduced.

What actually is it? I got a Smart|Sheffield card back in 2002, but lost it when I was mugged. Apparently, the cards can also be used as Sheffield Library cards, and were used in the e-voting pilot, so can my library card be used on the 52 electronic purse when it's up and running?

There doesn't seem to be any details on the actual cards yet.

It seems an entirely sensible scheme, I wonder how they'll cock this one up?

Also it really needs to offer some kind of discount to get people using it, but I doubt it will. |

I think you still have to ask the driver for the ticket that you want unless you buy one in advance off the internet. So if you wanted a £2 day ticket then you would ask the driver for that then swipe your card.
I agree it would be much better if it automatically worked out which ticket is cheapest. |

I don't think it'll be impossible - Oyster in London works out the cheapest fare (including buying you week or month tickets if you need it) and also saves you money on singles. Why not Sheffield?
other than, of course, London's Oyster is TfL-run...

As for harming my arguments, this implies you have actually read my argument, which you either did not and hence are lying, or you simply do not have the courtesy or intelligence to make a counter. Why would all car drivers dumping their cars in favour of buses cause more congestion? I have proved that even a full car takes up four times as much road space as a car even if it's full? For you to believe otherwise, surely you're car must always be full, right Keith? Please, do tell me whether you read my argument, or if you just ignored it, as if the latter is the case then I should like to ignore you as well. I'm not jealous, but the fact is that people cannot afford to drive because those that do push up the prices - you must agree with that surely? I'm simply seeking to redress the balance. You know your climate control is costing you financially and me environmentally? It's selfish - no two ways about it. And what is so wrong with sitting next to people you don't know? Has the sue of your car made you so insular that you cannot abide the contact of another human? I pity you. Anyway, you should be happy! If money is no object, you'll be happy to pay £30/day to park in the city centre MSCPs as it will price those who cannot afford to off the roads, leaving them clearer for you and giving you better choice of the best parking spots. All I am suggesting is that those ruining the environment - our environment - should be forced to pay through the nose for it. You can afford it Keith, right? If money gets a bit tight, maybe you turn the a/c to 19 instead of 17 and buy one less bottle of Cristal?

Who paid for the refurbishment of the bridge over the station, and its extension to connect with the tram stop to the south of the station?
If the train operator footed the bill, fair enough. But I expect it received public funds to benefit all Sheffielders, including tram users and those who live to the south of the station. If this is the case they have no right to close it. |
