and the short tower in the front u/c is about as tall as in the diagram?

They were totally right to lower the height of both towers. Otherwise, at the original 320m, they would've severely overpowered Jin Mao and even SWFC. Even at 260m, they still have IMO the strongest presence in Lujiazui

Although, they look too fat in that mock-up-- they will definitely look more slim (thus less dominating) in reality.

They are ~ the wide of Aurora in that mock-up, I don't think they will be more slim.

But they are located much further away than the Aurora (and all the other towers on the waterfront). The 2IFC will be located pretty much as far away as the Bank of China tower, and just look at how much fatter it looks in the mock-up above.
I assure you they are going to look way less imposing (and less tall too) in reality than they do in that rendering.

On another note, the Shanghai Center will look way taller than that too.
