Yeah, but you can't see any of that from the other picture. The skyline looks very small from the other angle, and it is. Pudong only looks good from one angle. Get a picture of Pudong from another angle, there is almost no substance to it.

Shanghai's skyline is massive, and you know it. Pudong is just one of dozens of CBDs and highrise clusters in Shanghai.

Pudong side of the river:

old pic, but the highrises extend all the way down the river:

...and it looks great from many angles:

Puxi side of the river

the Puxi ocean of highrises, 4000 and counting:

They both face each other. From the back of Puxi the two skylines merge when you can't see the river:

No I don't know it. It doesn’t LOOK massive. You can say that there are multiple clusters, but if you can't all see them at once...how is that a skyline? Shanghai is trying to make its skyline Pudong only, not all the rest. That's all you ever see. And what I'm saying is Pudong itself is not that large yet...It's a tiny corner of the city.

Huh? No, Pudong is only one of Shanghai's many skylines, as shown by the spiff fairy's posts right above you, and yes, it is only a tiny corner of the city. It is the skyline usually shown representing Shanghai, and it isn't massive by itself, but the entire skyline (Pudong + the dozens of other clusters) is. Sorry if I didn't get your point earlier.

Yes, I know Shanghai itself is huge! I was talking about Pudong. Because most people see Pundong as Shanghai today. And that part of Shanghai is not very large yet.

This photo shows my point:

There is nothing on the same scale in Pudong beyond what you see in the picture we are analyzing.

you do realise Pudong is on supertall scale, the trio that sticks out all over 1300ft. The rest are skyscrapers, Shanghai Urban Planning Bureau's stat on 4000 highrises are on those over 400ft.

Basically you're asking for a larger (supertall) skyline to stick out from a sea of skyscrapers.

I guess, I was just pointing out that if the picture were taken from a different angle Pudong would not look as dramatic. From a picture standpoint, the Shanghai skyline is not as dramatic as Hong Kong’s is.

From this angle Pudong looks almost empty, because there isn't anything big beyond SWFC.

This pic is (very) old, but its the Puxi side only:

the pointy building is 920ft tall. This is definitely a skyline imo:

all these are Puxi

See, that side is more what I'm talking about. It's a dense skyline. Pudong is not that thick yet. But everyone sees Pudong as Shanghai, which is a little strange.

Well I've following construction of almost all the buildings on the Pudong side, it's still not that dense.

Yep I know what you're trying to say, that Pudong seems a bunch of standalone skyscrapers on an plain. Effectively it's more of an island, with the peninsular made up of many plots awaiting the big developments over time.

However that's not the complete picture so to speak. if you look past the real estate and into the distance, you'll see the rest of Pudong returns to being dense and highrise again, akin to the Puxi side. Its just the peninsular jutting into the river is 'reserved' with big plans, where the financial centre of the world might one day be:

True, true. But Shanghai is no Hong Kong right now, where almost every picture is jaw dropping. That was my only point.

i do agree on Onn that pudong only looks good from certain angles, in some shots pudong looks immensely dense, however in other shots pudong looks very empty

it is also a pity that it is almost impossible to get the whole skyline of shanghai into a single shot, but something you do have to realise is that shanghai's skyline has an average height of buildings way above many of the skylines you see around the world, sometimes it gives you a feeling that swfc is not as tall as almost 500m...but something like 300m

Yes, also Pudong, or more specifically the Lujiazui financial district isn't planned to be dense when fully constructed (almost every plot has a park), so I think that you will (and I will) be disappointed, Onn.

Anyway, Shanghai needs about another decade or 2 of development until it is "jaw-dropping" from all angles; currently Puxi is, but Pudong will need Shanghai Tower, and it will look STUNNING!

IMO they should build a supertall cluster on Lujiazui Park.

I guess Pudong is more like "The center of Shanghai", than "The Shanghai Skyline". But yeah, the Shanghai Tower will definitely improve things, I think. Maybe define the area better.
