Well, fingers crossed we will see Cabe rubbish it and perhaps a re-think from the developer.

Trouble is I doubt CABE will rubbish it.

Lambeth consultation document

Plans are on display in Elizabeth House reception until 24 August.

I think most of us agree, this is a poor design for such an important location - we should make ourselves heard.

I honestly don’t think the designs are too bad, though they're hardly iconic buildings. They certainly are an improvement to what is currently there, especially at pedestrian level. The current site desperately needs modernising and revitalising.

Still the way Tower A is much wider at the top than the base just makes it seem so overbearing.

Hopefully a redesign will be in order.

I totally respect what you´re saying but I hate the train of thought. Better than what was there before is not good enough.

What is there now is just depressing...

What is proposed as the replacement, is just appalling.......

A wall of uninspiring, overbearing blocks is surely not the the way to go.

Has anyone been to the exhibition? More importantly, has anyone bothered writing to the council?

The email is: LambethPlanning@lambeth.gov.uk

For the subject line, put the application detail which is Elizabeth House redevelopment - Ref: 07/02628/FUL

I think we should ask them to push for a height increase and/or greater variation between the scale of each building.

This is my email. If enough people do this, perhaps we can make a difference.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sir or Madam

I am writing in regard to the proposed Elizabeth House redevelopment, adjacent to Waterloo Station (Ref: 07/02628/FUL).

Having seen the plans, I'm rather disappointed by the quality of the designs. For such a prominent site, I believe something world class is needed. The towers being proposed here are bland; their massing is too bulky and they lack a sense of grace and style. To be frank, they appear to be just another group of dull glass boxes.

There needs to be greater variation in height and scale between each of the 3 buildings. At the moment they are too similar to each other, and to the nearby Upstream Building (also known as the Shell Tower). This has the danger of creating a "wall" effect on the skyline. The tallest is currently 117m - I believe this should be allowed to reach higher, perhaps up to 150m. Taking distance and perspective into account, the Houses of Parliament would surely remain unharmed by this height increase.

In summary, I would urge you to push for something higher quality, more imaginative and more fitting for this prominent site.

Kind regards

Will Fox

(former SE1 resident)

Am I the only one who likes it then? Personally I feel they have a great relationship with the Shell Building.

Noticed scaffolding going up around the base of the Tower Building next to Waterloo Station. I’m not sure if this is coming down or getting a refurb to extend its life short-term. Does anyone know?

I think they don't look that bad either actually. Hardly iconic but certainly an improvement than what's there currently. I would appreciate a redesign still and/or height increase.

I think that the key to this development is a change in massing. The buildings from certain angles look the same height and by changing this could look alot better. Reducing the wall of buildings that is proposed. I think by making the slanted building in the center lower and the other two towers differing heights would be the key to this being approved. Another problem I have with it is that the roofs of the buildings are essentially flat, this is not helping their appearance on the horizon.

Had a look at the design & access report. I am totally underwhemled by this development. Its dull bland & bulky. A&M are such dull & mundane architects yet get big commissions. This is bankside 123 mkII - 3 large office blocks on one plot but slightly bulked up. yawwwwn!!

loving the sheer wall effect on this one

This one could almost be a disney cartoon- here's stumpy, blocky & bulky about to mug poor old shell

Couldn't get it copy across properly - just go on the Lambeth website & use the map function to find the site.

It really pisses me off that these will simply fly through the planning process.

I like this project more and more. It has this neutral maybe "mundane" feel with the slight original twist and if the quality of the cladding ressembles the blue fin or their HQ in Southwark, I think this trio might work well with the colossal mass of the Shell Centre.

And are they really proposing to leave the side wall of Waterloo Station exposed like that? Poor integration with surrounding buildings A&M.

Mundane is nothing to celebrate. And what's the original twist? That the buildings have angled facades? Crack open the champagne.
