Funny you should say that.. because at the time being some 70% wants the Goverment to have an election about the new treaty when it's finished... and why exactly would they want that if the alternative is it to be active without an election?

I can't wait - this will be the third time Denmark votes against the EU

Ofcause the best way would simply to have an election about leaving the EU... but they don't dare that

I don't see why we have to, we might not have the Norwegian reserves, but we still export oil..

And we were doing just fine before the EU!

Infact if you look at the best performing European nations, countries like Norway, Iceland and Switzerland are doing much better than just about every EU nation..

So even if we should lose out a bit, that's a small price to pay for one's freedom - and as I mention in another thread - Denmark leaving the EU, would open up the oppotunity for Denmark, Norway and Iceland to unite in a union of their own, as we were just a few decades ago..

Atleast then it'll be with people we share culture, veiws and economic levels with.. and it would make the Faroese's transition as lot easier when they finally become able to stand on their own two feet and become a nation too

You should remember WHY was EU established. Ofcourse every rich country would live better while not giving their money for the poorer ones, so screw them all

But if you want WHOLE Europe to be the most developed continent in the world, then EU is a very good shit.

Ofcourse this joice is yours, you can live in Denmark and why should you care about some Lithuanians or wtf

There are more factors why EU is needful. Then we stay together, little countries like LT is defended from the influence of Russia etc.. I think then whole Europe will live better, it'll be good for Denmark too. But it'll take much more time to feel that and you may feel that much more weaker. But i repeat it's for you to choice.

Denmark could still support and aid other without an EU membership...

And we could still support others in need of whatever kind of support they want without it too - infact with out the EU you'd have a much greater chance of actually acomplicing stuff as burocracy is kept to a minimum - and so is the number of people who have to agree to get it done..

The EU as a trading and to some extend taxation union fine by me... shengen is acceptable ( if people at the outer borders started doing their jobs for once ).. heck i even support the Euro as a united currency ( but NOT as the only currency )..

What I don't want to is people in other countries making the choices for me or my country..

As it is now I'm more or less 1/3.000.000 of the national outcome.. with the EU that number is drastically reduced and my porsonal freedom and rights are imo reduced greatly - especially when they want to sneak in new treaties deliberatly awoiding election triggers in Denmark and the UK

A united Nordic ( and Baltic ) union would be much better - roughly the same culture and views - and more local and suited for the people living in the nations..

While I certainly don't mind Southern Europe, I don't feel I have much in common with them and certainly do not want them having the power to change my life and future...

Sometimes smaller is better - and when it comes to politics and nations it couldn't be more true!

For military purposes we can always form alliances and coalitions - this have worked fine for 100s of years, no need to change that!

^This is getting a bit offtopic already, but I'm quite sure that EU won't last long. There are too many countries in it.

And we all know how well that worked out. It's affectionately known as the "four-hundred year night" here

Anyway, it's an awesome bridge. TEN-T will be an effective instrument in the destruction of nationalism (and cultures, languages, music and cute little puppies). I hope there will be HSR all the way from Copenhagen to Hamburg. And that it will continue to Gothenburg and Oslo.

The line between Malmö and Gothenburg (Västkustbanan) has double track with a line speed of 200 km/h in almost all its stetch. A shorter stretch is cleared for 250 km/h and the rest is prepared for it. With new tilting 250 km/h trains, travel times can be cut to 2 hours in 10 years - A regular HST train like TGV is not recommended.

This means Copenhagen-Gothenburg in 2 h 30 m.

I actually doubt the bridge will get hsr. In order for it to really make a difference, we would have to have a lot more stright tracks, and that is not likely to happen...

The Fehmarn Belt project is mentioned in the EU-transport-budget for 2007-2013. Seems like they are willing to spend 351.60 million €. That's quite a amount of money

Nice to see the EU membership paying a bit off - but how does the figure compare to the loss from not being able to sell Feta anymore???

It is very interesting to note that there are very few people supporting the EU membership of their country. I heard that the only reason UK members are sitting in the EU parlament is to figure out the way out from EU.

The idea about the bridge is awesome by the way, hope it will be built and the train line will be extended one day to Riga (no doubt it should be vacum tunnel hanging below the surface of Baltic Sea)

That could be easier than having safe and fast highway/fast railway through Kaliningrad district.
Btw. it's funny that Google Maps has placed mysterious town of "Gotland" on GOtland island.

@Nomels - that would be one helluva bridge!

I would love for it to be built - but I doubt the costs can match the benefits anytime soon...

Yep, but you will have to pay 4 bridge fees for the return trip ( Øresund and Femern ) - so those "cheap" beer will end up very expensive!

There is nearly everywhere a dry and flat border surface between Denmark and Germany so where is the purpose of such huge and expensive bridge? Don't these two governments know what to do with their plenty of money?
