China Southern Airlines to fly direct to Kota Kinabalu
Posted on August 28, 2012, Tuesday http://www.theborneopost.com/2012/08...kota-kinabalu/ KOTA KINABALU: China Southern Airlines will fly direct to Kota Kinabalu from Guangzhou from Aug 31, 2012, said Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun. He said talks with the airline started two years ago and recently, it was given the nod to operate the route twice weekly. “It had previously operated chartered flights to Kota Kinabalu. The airline, which initially feared low passenger load, has opened bookings for the Aug 31 flight,” he told reporters after opening Rafflesia Spa Essentials, an outlet selling spa products here yesterday. Masidi said the state government had started talks with China Eastern Airlines on the possibility of flying direct to Kota Kinabalu. The airline had flown several chartered flights to the city last month, he said. However, he said, there were a number of issues to be addressed, including suitable flight times. — Bernama Quote:

MAS to add 3 international routes from KK
Published: 2012/09/20 http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...cle/index_html Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has finalised plans to add three international routes from Kota Kinabalu effective December. In a statement, the national carrier said it would also increase frequencies to an existing international route from the capital of Sabah. A total of seven weekly services for these four routes will be operated using the latest 160-seater B737-800 aircraft. Group Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said although four international routes from Kota Kinabalu were suspended in January and February, the airline has now finalised plans to introduce flights between the Kota Kinabalu and three cities in the region. "We will announce details of this development in the near future once we have the clearance from the regulatory authorities," he was quoted as saying in the statement. The additional routes and more flights to an existing international route are expected to improve inbound tourist arrivals to Sabah and increase Kota Kinabalu's significance as the national carrier's eastern hub of Malaysia. Apart from MAS, its wholly-owned subsidiary, MASwings, also commenced international operations this year linking Kota Kinabalu to Brunei and also Tawau to Tarakan, Indonesia. -- BERNAMA

First non-stop Russia-Malaysia flights from Dec 17
By YVONNE LIM Published: Wednesday November 7, 2012 MYT 11:31:00 PM http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp...&if_height=202 KUALA LUMPUR: The first non-stop flights from Russia to Malaysia will take off this Dec 17, and is set to pave the runway for the arrival of more Russian tourists to the country. Fifteen charter flights with a carrying capacity of 147 passengers each will depart from Vladivastok to Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi, with a transit at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport over three months, and is expected to bring in 2,205 tourists to Malaysia within that period. The series of charter flights is the product of a collaboration between Vladivastok Airlines and Malaysian tour agency Tourism Vacation Resources Sdn Bhd. While witnessing the signing of the agreement between the two parties, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen described the initiative as "timely", as there are currently no direct flights from any city in Russia into the country. "This will not only bring in more tourist arrivals from Russia, but will also strengthen the friendly ties between our two countries," she said. She said Vladivastok was the best place to begin direct flights between Russia and Malaysia as the East-Russian city was only six and a half hours from Kota Kinabalu, and eight hours and fourty-minutes from Langkawi by air. "This is an untapped route and I see a lot of potential in this partnership," she said. The first flight from Vladivastok to Malaysia will arrive at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport on Dec 17, and the last flight out will be from the same airport on March 26. Tourism Vacation Resources chairman Tan Sri Ghazzali Sheikh Abdul Khalid said that the partnership with Vladivastok Airlines will also look at arranging travel for Malaysians who wish to visit Vladivastok, in the near future.

Kota Kinabalu airport set to be Asean-China air travel hub By ZUHRIN AZAM AHMAD Published: Tuesday November 20, 2012 MYT 7:02:00 PM http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp...&if_height=202 PUTRAJAYA: The Kota Kinabalu International Airport is set to be an air travel hub connecting Asean and China following a government agreement to sign and rectify Protocol 2 - Implementation of Limited Fifth Freedom under Asean-China Air Transport Agreement. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the rectification enabled KKIA to be connected to nine secondary points within Asean and 28 secondary points in China for cargo and passengers services. "This strategic decision will surely bring tremendous economic, trade and tourism boost to Sabah. "We can expect a positive growth and spillover effect from tourist arrival in Sabah," he said in a statement on Tuesday. Kong said the agreement would be signed in Bali at the end of this month.
