Thanks for the photos, brings back memories. Hope I can go back for a visit soon. Btw, that Mac is the nearest Mac from my Hamilton home. An old Mcmaster student.

You basically nailed it there. I think there's a high unemployment rate as well. In terms of crime, it's known for drugs and mafia. Ever heard of the 'Ndranghetas?

One group of 'ndranghetistas discovered outside Italy was in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, several decades ago. They were dubbed the Siderno Group by Canadian judges as most of its members hailed from Siderno.

In Canada 'Ndrangheta is believed to be involved in the smuggling of unlicensed tobacco products through ties with criminal elements in cross-border Native American tribes. Antonio Commisso, the alleged leader of the Siderno group, is reported to lead efforts to import "...illicit arms, explosives and drugs..." Elements of 'Ndrangheta have been reported to have been present in Hamilton, Canada as early as 1911.
I personally like Hamilton, sure you may find very...unpleasant people, but it's rather nice. I especially love the topography.

^ Hamilton actually has a lower unemployment rate than Toronto.

Hamilton has a long Italian history so it had a few mafias, thrived during the prohibition. Hamilton being in the middle of Toronto and the Niagara region it made a logical home for many. There still a few like the Musitano and Papalia mob in Hamilton, though they aren't active anymore just carries the name legacy.

Crime is extremely low in Hamilton, so far for a city of around 500,000 no murder yet this year, *knock on wood*.

Hamilton is nothing like "Newark or Jersey City." Although, it's quite industrial, it has loads of character. It'd probably be comparable to a place like Sheffield in the UK or Cleveland / a cleaner version of Pittsburgh in the USA. Lots of great mom 'n' pop restaurants, pubs, and has a decent music community,

Some of these so called "Italian mafia" neighbourhoods are some of the safest places you could live. Seriously! I spent a lot of time at a studio across from a "social club," and while it was interesting to see expensively dressed old men come and go, their presence basically keeps out street gangs.

I had certainly never heard of Hamilton until I looked at any of your photo threads, and it seems like a very cool, established town (although I do live in the U.S. if that makes any difference). However, your awesome threads have informed me of how cool Hamilton really is. Keep them coming they are always enjoyable.

Hamilton also has a much lower crime rate than Toronto,
and a very much lower rate than a same size American city.

Great pictures, you have a pro photographer's eye....
