Thanks for the great pics Sydney!
Great motroway pics and really nice to see SH1 to Warkworth. Looking at the pics it seems old fashioned chipseal has pretty much vannished in the Auckland region having been replaced by smooth asphalt.

If you have any pics, I would be interested in seeing the SH1/SH20 interchange at Manukau (I see you've posted pics just south of it).

Neat stuff.

Btw, I just messed around with Google Maps and they were giving me an estimated driving time of 8-9 hours (from Auckland to Wellington or Wellington to Christchurch).

As much as fun it is to drive such long distances, I dunno if my body would be capable of driving for such extreme long periods of time

The California<->Nevada roadtrip of five hours was really long enough for our family (during our vacation in America last year)...........but 8-9 hours, hmm......

Fly or drive?

At least it will be a somewhat interesting 8-9 hour drive. Try 8-9 hours of this:

NZ is famous for it's scenery and it won't disappoint. You could always travel for 4 hours and stop somewhere for the night. There is also the train option with daily trips between Auckland and Wellington. It is just as long but at least you can stretch your legs and meet some great people. I prefer to fly - approx. 45 minutes in the air and you are there

N1 through the Karoo. Did that in December.

That being said, my Aussie relatives commented on the photo claiming "what's the difference between that and Central Australia?".

It does look a lot like the Outback I know the N1 quite well, my fondest memory is when I moved from Johannesburg to Cape Town and I couldn't wait to reach my destination - The Karoo felt as if it was never going end

I've always loved this bit. Coming round the corner at Esmonde Rd to behold the Waitemata Habour and the CBD.

Likewise or when you reach the peak of the Harbour Bridge and you look our across the city, the marina and all the boats in the harbour - I loved it 6.5 years ago and I still love it

Thanks, very nice photos. New Zealand feels like the Switzerland of the southern hemisphere (i.e. tidy, neat and clean).

Chris, from what I've seen so far of Sydney's excellent photos, he only takes photos of the nicer parts of NZ, there are plenty of very rough areas of Auckland which look like some of the worst parts of LA, parts where Sydney wouldn't be welcome. So far I've not come across any nasty areas in any Swiss city.
