He hasn't been here for two weeks, so best way to get in touch with him would be through email. See if he will listen to you. I tried. I don't like this situation where we are basically without a mod...it leaves us vulnerable to any idiot who wants to make trouble.

Even if we get a new mod, he should continue to post in the forum

I sent PM's to both mirzazeehan and Tanzirian offering them the position for Mod of the Bangladesh subforum. I sincerely hope they both accept the offer. Once they accept I will forward the information to Jan and you should have new mods in no time. I understand it is difficult to have a subforum without a moderator. Hopefully you should have one very shortly.

This is good to hear. I for myself sincerely hope your decision not to be mod was prompted by personal reasons rather than something any of us did.

And obviously we'd rather have you participate rather than disappear

Nice map...good to see Dhaka finally getting recognition...oftentimes it gets ignored on such maps...but I wonder how they are calculating population?...because there would be some other cities like Istanbul, Tehran etc that would be there but are missing.

Do we have a thread about projects for other cities besides CHT, Dhaka and Sylhet?

Well we have so little info about projects beyond these three. Of course the share of economic activity in BD are in these three cities. I guess we could have a thread for projects and construction that covered all cities other than these three. If you or the others are willing to keep it updated, by all means. I know that I personally don't have enough info to keep it going. The bigger problem is limited internet access in Bangladesh. Whenever high speed net becomes more common in BD outside Dhaka, I am sure we will attract folks from places like Rajshahi and Khulna...then we should find info on projects in such places without much difficulty. Of course that is at least a few years away still.

Moderator Edit:

Everybody, please note - this is an architecture forum. Most discussions on other topics are welcome, but cross-border conflicts are not one of them. This does not mean that these are not important issues, merely that this forum is not the appropriate place for them. This weekend I shall post some formal rules for this subforum. Thank you for understanding.

Talking about statistics -- high population growth may not equate to great economic performance for every country as previously thought. There are other indicators...such as education and fertility.

On another note -- I found a different set of stats. Supposedly in Bangladesh there are 43 Million cellphone subscribers now out of our total population of 140 Million (roughly). This works out to 31% of the population.

Which came up in the same period that our neighbors achieved significantly less subscribers percentage wise. Clearly our performance is just a little brighter...but why?

What could be the specific reason for this?

Sometimes it sounds like some of us need to work on raising our opinion about our country and our cities.

True Majhi Bhai -- if we bad-mouth our own country no one will oppose it.

In fact there are outsiders (agent-provocateurs) of all sorts who will gladly lend a helping hand.

I have posted a set of rules on the sub-forum front page. Please know these rules and abide by them. Hopefully none of these rules should come as a surprise to anyone. If there is anything there which you feel should be changed, or anything that should be added, let me know, and I'll give it due consideration.

Here's an NTV feature on Univ. of Texas at Austin (A popular Bangladeshi student destination -- I know quite a few Alumni from there).
