Here's a thought, instead of speculating why don't we write to the cuoncil and ask them for the reasons they knocked back the 1st proposal and what elements in the 2nd proposal met their criterea? Any takers?

Well I already wrote to the council asking for clarification as to what design criterea does the new design satisfy that deemed the old proposal to be rejected. I'm waiting for a bshit response that's if they respond.

I couldn't agree more.

Whoever did the redesign shouldn't be allowed to call themselves an architect. It's a crime against the beauty of buildings. Just plain horrible.

IMO the second one is 'better' without all that shit hanging off the sides. Still, it's like those Extreme Makover shows where they get some hideous person, send them through the plastic surgery production line and they come out looking better, but they're still, you know, ugly

Maybe it's not the architects fault. Often they are designing to a strict specification and price. Maybe the developer or financer was the one who pushed this design out of the architect?

I just look at this and it just doesn't seem like it was an architect's design without heavy external influences and pressures.

I blame the buyers. Perth buyers are not sophisticated enough to shun this crap altogether. We're just encouraging mediocre designs. I don't even think this can be called a design.
There's one thing don't get though. Which design was rejected by council? Wa it that stupid one above with wings or the other one with the swimming pool etc on earlier pages?

Design Inc are actually a pretty good architecture firm. They designed CH2 and K2 Sustainable Housing in Melbourne and the Chatswood interchange in NSW.

As a buyer in a limited market (such as Perth CBD apartments), usually the overall look and external design of a building is the last thing on your list of priorities.

Crap apartment designs are not just limited to Perth, you get them everywhere. Specially in more mature markets such as Sydney and even Melbourne. Because in those markets buyers know at the end of the day location, size and views are the primary driver for apartment values, not the external design of the tower.

I want to see the "river" face of the building. I hope that will appear more decent, because think about of buildings with poor Northern faces.

Perhaps its an indication of our apartment market then, going by your ocmments Ippgi, that its pentiful enough when we are also getting shitty proposals going up, like Sydney. So its just one of many, therefore can get away with it.

Im sure if this were our only 80m apartment tower going up, there would be an outcry, the likes seen in Adelade perhaps, where it would dominate the skyline... (sorry sa's, i had to get that in there )
