North and South Carolina go together like lamb and tuna fish. If Charlotte would quit hogging it all then I might be for it.

You're from Augusta, every other state but Georgia. What do you know? What happened to the Pillsbury Doughboy? Hey, we might as well add Georgia to the mix too.

There are too many differences between NC and SC. NC 'behaves' different than SC on several things.
This would be like wanting NC and VA to merge together, given the fact that North Carolina was largely settled by Virginians......
I have thought about it, but would never want it to happen.

I personally believe that NC is more naturally beautiful than SC. But SC is more colonial and in a weird way more historical (Charleston) than NC.

Myrtle Beach might not be the best example of a beach city, but the Lowcountry has some really nice areas, and while I like the desolation of some of NC's beaches, there's not a lot to do there (I like malls, bookstores and restaurants near my beach, not just trees, sky and water).
Whatever. You're just saying that because you moved to paradise you traitor.

Unfortunately, Georgia remains a largely apathetic state when it comes to politics, with the only excited voters being located in south Georgia, where they elect intellectual giants like Sonny-do, whose lofty understanding of world affairs is summarized in my quote below. In short, Georgia will vote for a Republican president by at least a 5% margin. North Carolina is close, almost a swing state, as it lacks many of the cultural wastelands Georgia has. South Carolina is similar to Georgia in that regard, only worse.

Being from Augusta, I have somewhat of a dual nature. After all, we do fly the South Carolina flag at our mall!!

Do the residents of NC and SC really have that much animosity toward each other? I lived the first 25 years of my life in NC and I never felt anything but indifference. I would bet that 95% of the populations of both states fall in or near the same category...

The two states were never combined - they were always separate states with opposing directional references included in the titles. The economies, populations, land area, and political climates of the two states are on opposite ends of the spectrum...maybe SC can just attack and overtake Fort Sumter again. That would be an easier task and would cause nearly as much violence.

There are indeed differences here, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that they are on "opposite ends of the spectrum." There are really more similarities than most would care to admit. As much as I wish this state would make substantial progress faster, it isn't nearly as backwater as some think.

In terms of the economies of the two states, if you look beyond the most visible sectors in NC--finance and biotech--the similarities become much more obvious.

I am not a native North Carolinian, but in my 15.5 years in this state, I have NEVER heard anything against SC. If any animosity exists, I just haven't seen it.

There's a difference between animosity and wanting to stay separate states, I would say. If someone suggested merging Vermont and New York again, they wouldn't be keen on it even though neither hates the other by any measure.

Oh my goodness. Why would this issue even come up to begin with!? Constitutionally it is impossible to merge two states. This question is merely a dream and not a reality.

South and North Carolina are both different in certain ways and alike in others. I'll have to take NC's side on annexation laws. SC's sucks!

oh, and for the record... why would Augusta want to be in SC? GA is much better! hehehe (kiddddingggg)

Hey, Savannah is on the border, too.

Savannah, South Carolina

It would be cool to have both Charleston and Savannah.
