AER/AAQ/ASF/GDZ/KRR/MRV/ROV/SIP/STW/VOG | Southern Russian Airports

The Sochi/Adler International airport will serve as the entrace to Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics. The terminal is in the final stages of completion (after many delays, ugh!).

In 2006 the airport reported 1,346,000 passengers with a growth of 10.4% from the previous year. Passenger growth is expected to continue in light of its given future.

It looks old already.....the design is something from the early 90's.

Maybe it's because there are alot of angles and sharp edges built into the design. Alot of the new airports seem to be series of softer curves to the buildings.

Late last year, Serbian construction company "Putevi Uzice" won the 100 million euro (of the total 12 billion set aside by President Putin for development of Sochi) tender for reconstruction of the runway at Sochi airport. The work be carried out through 2008

BELGRADE -- Construction company Putevi will begin a construction job worth 100 million euros.

The Užice-based company won an international tender in Russia.

The company will reconstruct the airport in Sochi, the first of many infrastructural jobs within an eleven billion dollar investment plan that Russian President Vladimir Putin has passed.

The project is part of the preparations for the next winter Olympic Games, which will be held in this Russian city.

“In the next year and a half we will be working on reconstructing and making additions to the runways at the large airport in Sochi. There was serious competition in the tender, Austrian Strabag participated as did other companies, mostly Russian ones, only to have our offer deemed the best one in the end, as far as the price and our references were concerned. Of course, we will do everything to get this done in time, as always. Getting such a job is an honor for our company and for Serbian construction.” Putevi Director Dragan Jarakoviæ said.

Back in 1992, when they began with the jobs in Russia, Putevi started the construction and reconstruction of the airport, focusing on engineering. But at that time, there were not enough investments so the company turned its attention to construction. It continued to build hotels, banks and sanatoriums around the country for years. Now, with the job in Sochi, it has returned to engineering.

On the domestic construction market, especially in road construction in Serbia, Putevi is very active. Currently, the company is working on the reconstruction of a highway going through Zlatibor, from Borova Glava to Kokin Brod, where seven bridges are being constructed. They are also building a tunnel and bridge on the highway going through Ovčar Banja, and are, along with the Austrian company Alpina, working on the Novi Sad highway. Putevi is also finishing work on a new medical school in Užice and various other, smaller projects.

Yea it does look dated, but as long it serves it purpose in 2014 it shouldn't matter.

Oh yeah, it's construction started in late 80's and being almost complete it remained on hold more than for decade.

You may see dim and rather dirty cladding at this picture. So, it was mounted in mid. 90's:

Inside Adler airport reminds me the old terminal 2 in Barcelona, just Sochi's is more light, not so dark as BCN T-2. BCN a/p was also built before the Summer Olympics. I hope that after Sochi 2014, if it is a reality that Sochi will become a world class resort as planned, they will build new modern terminal. This project is old and from the end of 20th century. It was just refurbished and renovated. Its not a new project.

Yes, well airports usually don't grow from plants, so they are artificial.

WOW! That is a unquie shaped building. That looks really small in the inside. How many gates are there? Show us some planes at Sochi sometime.
