With its around 140 shops, the Ernst-August-Galerie will set new standards with flagship stores, fashion outlets and boutiques, cafes and restaurants, a food speciality market, a fresh produce zone and more than 20 near-retail service outlets. its a city mall and not hall I guess.

320 million seems to be all right if you want some quality. But it looks too boxy and banal for my taste. With that money they could have done something more attractive. The inside might be nice though.

thats still expensive though, but if its for a mall then it sounds reasonable although it really has to be something special then

yeah, you could atleast built something that looks a bit more interesting.
I mean the Hochvier project in Frankfurt looks much better even without the towers.

The reason why they didn`t build something else, is that they had to construct a building, which is similar to the central station and the building on the other side (on the far right at the photograph). Another kind of structure wouldn`t fit.

But why is it so expensive?
Are they going to do something spectacular on the inside?

Maybe yes, it's the inside what could have been making it so expensive.
Here you can have a (limited) look: http://www.ece.de/shared/media/downloads/685_de.pdf

Maybe the $320 million include the compensation costs for the recently renovated Central Post Office, which was demolished for the Ernst-August-Gallerie.

Some local politicians in Hanover had suggested that the Mall should be connected with the Central Station by an underground tunnel. I can´t understand why they will not do that, especially as the Mall inside the Central Station is also owned by ECE. Now customers have to cross a busy street where you have to wait forever until the traffic lights turn green.

The underground tunnel was an idea, but I guess they won't do that.
Maybe they first wait for the mall opening and build it when it's really necessary.

Same thing with the plan to build the last subway-tunnel under Central station (vacant, but already built) to ban the last tram from the city and complete the subway network. Maybe also necessary with the mall opening. We'll see. They have it in sight in the local-transportation plan until 2012. But it'll cause high costs. depending how long the subway network will bee (approximately 650.000.000 dollars)
