Thanx stickedy, RolexAL for info.

Regarding Albanian Alps - we were there in july 2009. Unforgetable trip with ferry from Koman to Fierze (ok, the road to Koman was not very good). We drove to Bajram Curri and further on to enter the Valbona valley. There was a macadam road to the valley with very sharp stones, so we stopped by the river (maybe 1km into the valley) and turn back. The road was too hard for our family car. Is this road now in better condition?

Returning to Shkoder we took the hilly road from Fierze (over the dam and upwards). Just to reach the top of the hill there is 20km steep hairpin road. But it was newly asphalted and therefore really enjoyable! Alltogether Fierze-Puke-Bushat --> 4h

Still I have no info about the situation on the road from Shkoder to Boge and Thethi? My last info is that it's only possible with a terrain car (4WD). Anybody knows?

Ok, thanks. This is very good road. Still Razėm is before Boge (if I found the right village on the map?). What about further on to Boge and Thethi? Same quality?

Uhepper,hello again.

The main, mountainous roads leading to Theth(in all directions) are paved, but i can't assure you how much in the deep of the park can you enter with your car.According to the infos.i read now..most of the tourists that want to enter with their car in Theth, they have to leave their cars in the so called the "station".By reading www.thethi-guide.comthe new road was opened in the end of April 2010.

As of March 2010,the interior part of the road looked like

To be sure, just ask at Thethi Travel Guide.(In english). In there u can find more concrete answers.I respond to you based in datas given mostly by media,in the page below people are better informed.

That would be SH3. In 2003 Google imagery you can see it's unpaved. Stunning scenery.

No, it was not unpaved, but the asphalt was very bad and the road was narrow. You can experience this face of the SH3 still from Lin (where the new road now ends) to Pogradec and a bit further (the whole part along Lake Ohrid)

Anyway nice to see that another part of SH3 is now done!

It's remarkable how much Albania is building up its road network. Pretty much all coastal regions of the country are connected to the national road network. Rural mountainous regions are no exception. Road that connects the country's two most spectacular mountanious regions is almost complete. One can only imagine what a trill it would be to finally drive the road from Theth to Valbona.

Kukės region in particular has seen heavy investments in road infrastructure. Apart from the well known motorway built in this region, two other important segments are already under construction. Kukės-Krumė, the 27 km segment that connects the districts of Kukės and Has is under construction since July '09. The other important segment is the 28 km Kukės-Shishtavec road.
For those not informed, Shishtavec is one of the most remote regions in the country. Populated mostly by the gorani minority, Shishtavec lies in a rugged mountanious landscape, very near the border with Kosovo. This place is a popular ski destination and national ski tournaments are held here annually.
A short video report showing the current condition of Kukės-Shishtavec road.
