OK Qukes is not so far away from Kafasan on the Ohrid lake, the latter being the major border point with Vardar Macedonia to the East. I was asking for the corresponding section in Albania because there would be a highway/expressway all the way from Skopie to Ohrid/Struga and the part in Albania would carry traffic both from Bulgaria as a connection between the Black and Adriatic seas and from Greece as a connection between the Aegian and Adraitic seas.

Albania will soon get motorway acess to Shkup through Kosovo.

A1(Albania)-> R7(Kosovo) > R6(Kosovo) > E65 (FYROM) > A2(FYROM). Not ideal but I believe this will be a quicker route rather than going straight through Albania- FYROM border.

That's a difficult matter.

Albania is building the Rruga e Arberit from Tirana north-east through the mountains in direction to Peshkopia. That expressway will lead to the border crossing with Debar. Albania wants to improve importance of that border crossing.

Macedonia in the other hands is in progress of building a motorway from Gostivar to Ohrid/Struga in addition to the existing expressway from Skopje to Gostivar.

So there are two different ideas of connecting both countries since Macedonia has absolutely no plans in improving the connection from Gostivar to Debar. And Albania has no plans to improve the road from Elbasan to Qafa Thane...

One of the big problems of these region is that the countries don't speak properly with each other... There are many more examples for that.

One can also say that Macedonia's plans are more about connecting Ohrid with Skopje than they are about international connections...

Tbh I don't think building roads to borders should be on Albania's radar right now. Much more important is connecting Tirane with most of the country's secondary cities. Albania is not a particularly large country, although it is quite mountainous.

They do, just very diplomatically. Remember AL and MK citizens are allowed to cross only with ID cards emphasizing decent relations.

Right now, as it stands, this has become more of a legend . Let's see, elections are due in June this year.

Skopje to Gostivar is actually a motorway, it is signed all the way as A2 with green signposts. The problem stands with the section Tetovo - Gostivar. It is a straight line of 18 km double carriageway which has narrower track width, surely less than 3.5 m, and no hard shoulders. In addition to that, the central divide is a thin concrete line with a 0.7-0.8 m height maybe. I don't know how would one classify such a road, except a pretty dangerous one.

Also I don't know, or haven't heard, of any current plan to extend the motorway from Gostivar onwards. There is only one motorway project currently being implemented, and that is from Kicevo (Kercove) to Ohrid (Oher)

Nevertheless, because we're in the Albanian thread, I would argue that, if and when the Balkans corridors will get integrated into TEN-T, the current Pan-European Corridor VIII (I would argue that it is not even current anymore) will not follow this route. Instead it will go from Varna via Burgas-Plovdiv-Sofia-Nis-Prishtina to Durres. This route is almost all motorway (Sofia - SRB border is being built, BG border - Nis is almost finished, Nis - RKS border and RKS border - Prishtina will most probably commence in the next year, Rreshen - Fushe Milot in Albania will get upgraded) and is about the same length, aproximately 1,000 km. While on the other way there are about 250 km of length for which there's not even plans currently and I don't suppose we'll see any investment in the near future.

The road through the mountains northeast of Tirana towards Blato BCP will be a simple two-lane road, not an expressway, serving only local purposes. Besides, from the other side of the border the terrain is hard (cutting through the Shar mountains) towards Novo selo and eventual A2 in Vardarska Macedonia, so this road has no reasons whatsoever to be expanded. It is playing a subordinate role in the region. Thus the main BCP between Albania and Vardarska Macedonia is Kafasan near Struga. It is also the passage point of the former pan-European corridor 8. The so called SH3 is important as any other motorway in Albania.

That is true, but the major goal of this highway is to connect further north with Nis. The distance from Durres to Skopie using A1 is shortened a bit, when one day a highway is built from Skopie to Elezki han. There is still, however, the gap around Stimlje, so one has to go to Lipljan when the corresponding expressway is also done there. The more appropriate highway is in any case through Kafasan and then Elbasan. Also, before the Adriatic-Ionian highway is built, SH3 is the major route from Albania to Greece, with the highway network in Greece almost ready from the border.
Even if we look locally, only from Albanian standpoint, a highway between Elbasan and Korcha makes a lot if sense for the region there.

I don't think that the so called corridor VIII will ever be shifted along A1, let alone heading East from Nis or in other words bypassing the whole Vardarska Macedonia. Struga, Skopie and Kriva Palanka are an integral part of this corridor. As far as Bulgaria is concerned, Varna is not approaching Sofia via Plovdiv although it may look like that. A2 highway will be the primary connection, because of which all other highway projects come behind, including Sofia-BG/SRB border where not a single kilometer is even started. I assume Nis-Durres will one day become a branch of the TEN-T corridor Orient/East Med.

Greece is completing the Ionian motorway this year from Ioanina to Rio/Patras. A section between Ioanina and the Albanian border at Kakavia is missing.

Macedonia is building a motorway to Ohrid from Kicevo.
So Skopje will be connected with Qafasan and with Elbasan.
Kicevo-Ohrid
A highway link through Korce to A3 is not even planned in Albania, although there is an existing Greek motorway A29 to Kristallopigi/Korca.
But with exception of the Pogradec bypass (1km) which is being built, Korca POgradec Lin is a nice road.

The construction of Kicevo-Ohrid 57 km started almost 3 years ago (February 2014) with the chinese capital. Expected construction time was 4 years, which means it should be given to traffic next year.

I don't know where you got that Mbrostar - Levan (Fier bypass) is A4, but it should form part of A2 actually.

They put a new asphalt layer and repaired an old bridge... Did you ever drive there? This is not a good road to drive, to much turns and too few possibilities to overtake. It would be necessary to make a new road or to upgrade it to a proper connection. That was meant with "improving".

A3 & Tirana's outer ring road - update

This is the current situation & progress of the A3 motorway ( Tirane-Elbasan ) . The segment shown in this video is the end of the A3 where it connects with the western part of Tirana's outer ring road .

The Videos are great, but the description is strange.
Both are made almost at the same place at TEG (Tirana eastern gate) an big complex of shopping etc. The first looks south to one of the two missing parts of Tirana/Elbasan-Motorway.

The second looks east, to something that might once be an eastern ring.

If the northernmost strip of E852 maybe until Sauk is part of Elbasan-Tirana-motorway or of the (western) ring road is open to discussion, as there is no valid definition IMHO. At least it was not part of the ring road in its planning.
