In 2006 Albania joined the E-road cooperation. The following European routes pass through the country:

E86: Korēa - Florina - Thessaloniki
E762: Sarajevo - Nikšić - Podgorica - Tuzi - Shkodėr
E851: Dubrovnik - Bar - Ulcinj - Shkodėr - Pristina
E852: Tirana - Elbasan - Struga - Ohrid
E853: Saranda - Ioannina

I've ridden all these roads and believe me, there is a difference. Those expressways in Albania don't usually have an emergency lane and there is no fence. Also, there are a lot of entries/exits to the road to the buildings around in the same level, just like on a national road.

The one to Kukes will probably be with a real motorway standard.

I agree with Durres-Kukes will be the first Motorway for Albania. Tirane-Durres-Lushnje-Fier can be classified as Highways.
Why is that sign green??

Thats 500 million USD the budget for roads and highways only. Which is not bad at all. Enough to build a second motorway or upgrade existing highways.
No my friend it is 960 million $ ! And i am peety sure about that ... !

Uppon completion, the Thirrė-Kalimash Tunnel will continue to be the single longest road tunnel in the region. The Egnatia Odos Motorway project consists of 76 tunnels with the longest being 4.8 km
Isn't there a 10-km-long tunnel planned in Greece? Or it will be railway too?

Not as far as I know. Bare in mind that Albania is the country with the highest elevation in the region so building a highway with such a lengthy tunnel is natural considering the terrain.

50, 60, 70 meters high cuttings never look great, even when finished and in operation.

Could be police. The military usually has green vehicles.

Personally I think the newest photos of the Tirana Durrės highway (the ones where it has 3X3 lanes with palmtrees next to it ) looks quite impressive, much better than earlier photos of this road, has it been reconsructed resently? Also I wonder if you guys use green as the colour of the signs along your motorways, and if this is a quite new feature since I have only seen blue before?

I also hope we use green as the colour of the motorway-signs.
