African highways

If you have highway photos from your country , please post here.

These are Egyptian highway pics ( very few of them ) taken by me during my trip there last year I was on my way south from Cairo to Aswan ( took 20 hours by bus ) . Egypt has very beautiful highways

30 minutes after leaving Cairo. A typical Egyptian highway

We are crossing through the desert

Interesting scenery on the highway 150 km south of Cairo

Cairo Toll gates

While waiting for taxi I saw this signboard.. Nasr City is the place where most of Cairo's elites live...

This is a great thread. In the past we had a thread for Highways, and I'm glad that this topic has been revived.

Keep the Pictures Coming.

Looks like the N1 concrete highway is getting a new coat of asphalt. It was announced that this highway will be widened by 1 lane on each side to help alleviate the traffic jam that plagues this highway which joins Pretoria (Capital City) and Johannesburg. Roughly 300,000 cars passes through this highway per day.

The Gautrain rapid rail link project ($3.5 billion project to be completed by 2010) is also meant to help solve this problem.

naija, those pics are not Nigerian highways! are you kidding?

Moroccan highways look sleek, but why is nobody driving on them? When were they built?

SA highways are very nice, too! Nice pics, Kulani!

Madi, great shots of the gorgeous and modern Moroccan highways, most of them look very new. Were they built in the last 10 years? Are there traffic cops on these roads or speed cameras? I think it would be lovely to get my mates and a few BMW M5s on those roads. LOL

thank you, yess al these roads are builded last 3 years.
as for the police in morocco, the police uses mostly radars and camera's
when you get caught by the radar they will stop you later on
like we can see on this picture where the highway patrol is busted someone

Those Moroccan Highways are sweet.

The South African, ones are of course, of the same caliber.

Now that's what I call infrastructure. Well done my Northern, and Southern African Brothers.

the traffic on the Pretoria - Johannesburg Ben Schoeman highway can be as bad as this. Its often called the largest parking lot in the Southern Hemisphere.

image hosted on flickr

image hosted on flickr

and the other parking lot is the N3 to Kempton park

image hosted on flickr

this is what often happens to those attempting to dodge the Ben Schoeman highway traffic

image hosted on flickr

that same highway becomes peaceful on Sundays

Wow very nice SOuth African highway pics Kulani and the signboards look so kewl.

Lol the largest parking lot in SOuthern Hemisphere : : but I think Jo'burg and Pretoria's connurbation pop is still below 10 million but wow very nice highways there

Morocco's freeways are very impressive with scenic landscapes in many stretches Very straight and smooth driving. I want to see the highways connecting Casablanca and Rabat

The stretch between Pretoria and Joburg is roughly 55 kilometers and sees around 320,000 cars pass on it per day. On a bad day during morning/evening peak hours, traffic can be packed like that on the entire highway from Pretoria to Joburg making what should be a 35 minute trip a 3 hour trip!!! This is why the Gautrain Rapid Rail link is being developed to try and solve this problem. The South african national roads agency (SANRAL) announced a week ago that they will spend $3 billion to try and widen this and other highways while connecting other highways to improve the traffic situation before 2010. The only challenge for the rapid rail system will be getting South Africans off their cars which they love very much.
