Linked to a port in another country, for so many years divided not only by the border, but also by difficult geopolitical issues, never electrified...
Are there any plans to revive this link as a truly international corridor between Central Europe and the Adriatic coast?

This railway was important only between 1906 (when it was built) and WWI (when Austria-Hungary dissolved). It connected Trieste with Prague (both in A-H). Nowadays it isn't particularly important, neither for passenger- nor for freight traffic, only for western Slovenia. I don't see a bright future for it either. East of it is the railway Jesenice-Ljubljana-Koper and west of it is the fast railway (180 km/h) Tarvisio-Udine(-Trieste) in Italy. Also, since 2011 there has been no passenger rail traffic between Slovenia and Italy at all (neither between Ljubljana and Trieste/Venice).

Trenitalia seems not to like cross-border passenger traffic. Number of trains between Italy and Switzerland has also been drastically reduced in the last 5-10 years.

Well, you always can walk (or take a taxi) between Gorizia Centrale (IT) and Nova Gorica (SLO), but it's hardly a solution for so-called "normal" passengers.

^ In that case you would use the Jesenice-Sežana railway we talked about earlier.

When we are just talking about Bohinj line, here are some pictures of this gorgeous line.

There are plans to build a high speed network in Slovenia? Maybe it would be interesting to link Ljubljana to Vienna and Budapest by this kind of services.

There are long-term plans for HSRs in Slovenia from Ljubljana towards Trieste, Villach, Graz/Vienna, and Zagreb. Budapest would make sense only via Zagreb.

I would imagine that the most simple, straight and direct solution to make an efficient connection between Hungary and Slovenia would have been the reconstruction of Redics - Lendava - Mursko Sredisce line with a shortcutting new track Mursko Sredisce - Ormoz. At least technically. Well, I know, you could tell me: "Mursko Sredisce belongs to Croatia, not Slovenia. No matter Croatia is becoming the EU member state, it would not have won enough political support". Apparently so. Nevertheless, such a routing would have been shorter, with better profile and speeds. A pity for me.

If you think a railway between Slovenia and Hungary through Croatia (or Austria, which is already in the EU and Schengen) is enough, then we didn't have to build any new railway at all, because they already existed (via Čakovec, Zagreb or Graz). But this way we don't have to pay transit fees to Croatia/Austria.

I have seen in Google maps (in street view) that the line in Hungary has also been upgraded. On an older map, there were sections with only 60 km/h allowed, but in street view, i have seen fresh ballast.
