Looks like some of it is coming down without any help at all!
"The Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre was closed on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning after a glass cladding panel shattered at Hannibal House". http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/2867

Came past this area on the train on the way into the office this morning and caught a glimpse of quite an interesting looking facade on the way through... A new residential building with lots of solid wooden box balconies stuck on the side of it. Quite simple but looked quite effective (in the 3 seconds I had looking from a moving train)
Anyone know anything about it? Who it's by, what its called etc? Cheers

Come on Zim, if Goldfinger had stayed in Hungary we wouldnt have got Trellick Tower, a hideous icon I used to pass by in the early eighties when it was the " tower of terror". Now its grade two listed and the flats sell for 450k up! When every sixties nightmare block has gone this one will stand as a classic. Next time I am in London I will go out of my way to visit it.
Even the hateful relationship with Ian Flemming bore fruit. Goldfinger is the best Bond movie by a mile! |

It has been rumoured that the Rockingham Estate may be demolished in 2010 possibly as part of the E&C masterplan.

Estates Gazette -
Lend Lease, the redevelopers of the Elephant and Castle, are close to securing their first major prelet at the scheme. The London College of Fashion and the College of Communication are expected to sign up for 500,000sqft of space. They also considered Argent's rival King Cross development. South Bank University may also take space in the Lend Lease development at E&C. The best thing about this news is that the Fashion College will vacate one of the largest and worst offenders on Oxford Street. A wholesale redevelopment of the block on Oxford Street still depends on the plans of British Home Stores which operates the retail portion of the building.

Ah good I had wondered what had happened to their Kings X plan. Yeah their current building looks awful from Regents Street in particular, although it is a sign of the times when you equally dread what may replace it!

The Trellick Tower is an assault on the human spirit. I suggest that all the modernist architects should be made to demolish it with their teeth as an act of collective punishment for their brutal ruination of the world's cities. It is only listed because the modernists have taken over the asylum. The listing is a deliberate insult to those who loathe what they stand for, which is the vast majority of people.

Trellick is an aquired taste to be sure but actually eating it? Even with a sugar coating? I think this goes to far!
