I know that building too, ver strange indeed. You should try the japanese forum, and ask them.

Those elevated freeways are really impressive. In Europe they are avoided, because they supposedly deface the cities!

Indeed. Going over the Google air photos of Tokyo, those highways are threaded all over the city with no visible 'ghost' ends - they built their entire planned system. Some of them are built elevated lengthwise over rivers and canals, too.

Truly amazing.

We need some double-deck freeways too. Some 2x3 motorways here are really overloaded, but no space to widen or build an emergency lane.

cool

Tokyo has the coolest transportation infrastructure anywhere

I like looking at it in google earth, but I can never find any on or off ramps. I know the expressways in japan do not have many entrances and exits but there are places in central tokyo where it looks like you can't get off anywhere

Thats interesting how you go directly into a parking area off the freeway

speed limit is very low in Japan. I thought 90km/h, even on rural tollways.

Excellent roads network in Tokyo. Just one question, maybe a dumb one, what happens when a car gets broken or in a car accident, how they take it away having so few entrances or exits?
I really liked the videos, thank you for sharing.

Greath thread!

Does anyone happen to have any pictures of rural freeways/motorways in Japan? I ask this because that's something i've practically never seen, and I'm curious about it.

But you found it, anyway
Great to see there's so much road construction going on in Japan. Looks like they're building a ring road around Tokyo.

This is really a big problem to build highways in many Japanese cities like Tokyo due to the congested living space, they had to build in several layers. Many Chinese cities also use this way too.

BTW, is it the highway within the game Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune?

Japan really knows how to build highways and public works (despite facing the problems of congestion and lack of space).

Latest news though is that a new access way called the "Chuo Kanjo Shinjuku expressway" will open within this year. This is highlighted by the red line.

By 2013, "Chuo Kanjo Shinagawa expressway" will be opened and is represented in the map by a light blue line.

This will form of a circular loop connecting the core sections of the highways belonging to the "Greater Tokyo Area". These will help reduce traffic congestion and at the same time reduce noise and air pollution coming from vehicles. A win-win situation

Yes.

The C1 (Kanjo expressway, Roppongi highway, Daiba expressway, etc.) are all part of the game. Too bad though that when Maximum Tune 3 comes out, Hakone will be scrapped (probably replaced with some line in Shiodome)
