Japan National Route 339
National Route 339 is a national highway of Japan connecting Hirosaki, Aomori and Sotogahama, Aomori in Japan, with a total length of 108.4 km (67.36 mi). The final 0.4km of the highway is actually a staircase.

Japan National Route 174

National Route 174 (国道174号 kokudō hyakunanajūyon-gō) is a national highway connecting Port of Kobe and Route 2 in Kobe, Japan. It's the shortest national highway(187m) in Japan.
Length: 187.1m

National Route 58 (国道58号) is a highway in Japan. This very unusual road has continuous numbering over disconnected segments on the islands of Kyūshū, Tanegashima, Amami Ōshima, and Okinawa. The road has a total of 255.5 km on land. It originates in the prefectural capital of Kagoshima in Kagoshima Prefecture and terminates in Naha, the capital of Okinawa Prefecture.

At the northern terminus, Route 58 meets Routes 3 and 10. The segment in the city of Kagoshima measures only about 700 m. The next segment links Nishinoomote, Nakatane, and Minamitane. On Amami Ōshima, the highway connects Amami, Tatsugo, and Setouchi. The final segment starts in Kunigami at the northern tip of Okinawa Island and runs along the west coast to the southern terminus in Naha

Michi-no-Eki

Michi-no-Eki means “Roadside Station” in Japanese. The Michi-no-Eki system was launched 20 years ago to create a safe, comfortable road traffic environment, and unique, lively spaces that showcased the individuality of a region.
Each Michi-no-Eki has three distinct features:
“Refresh” – Rest facilities that include free 24-hour parking and restrooms.
“Community” – Regional co-operation where cultural centers, tourist attractions, recreation and other local development facilities promote interaction with the region. “Information” – Where road, tourist and emergency care information is readily available.

Chūbu-Ōdan Expressway

it will be so nice for me to be able to go to Shizuoka and Nagoya faster

Quote:
The expressway is planned to commence in the city of Shizuoka and terminate in Saku, Nagano[2]
The route crosses (横断 ōdan) the mountainous Chūbu region, connecting Shizuoka, Yamanashi, and Nagano prefectures.
Together with the Jōshin-etsu Expressway, the route forms a link connecting the coastline of the Japan Sea with that of the Pacific Ocean.

As of March 2008, most of the route is either under construction or still in the planning stages.
Most of the incomplete areas will be built according to the New Direct Control System,[1][3] whereby the financial burden for construction will be shared by both national and local governments and
will be operated as toll-free roads upon completion.

This is definitely one of the most interesting National Routes of Japan. Not far to the east of the staircase and underground is the Seikan Tunnel linking Honshu and Hokkaido, now by Shinkansen. From the base of the staircase, 339 continues along the north coast down to Route 280 in Minmayahoncho.

Tōhoku-Chūō Expressway

It turns out that the 35 kilometer section of the Tōhoku-Chūō Expressway between Fukushima and Yonezawa opened to traffic on 4 November 2017. It is a super two expressway through the mountains, and includes the 9 kilometer long Ritsuko Tunnel.

It is one of the longest sections of highway to open at one time in Japan. Usually Japanese highway openings are less than 15 kilometers long at a time.

They opened a number of super-two expressways recently.

* 26 November: 10 km of the San-in Kinki Expressway (Hamasaka - Amarube)
* 19 November: 14 km of the Sanriku Expressway (Yamada - Miyako)
* 12 November: 4 km of the Minami-Kyushu Expressway (Izumi - Takaono)
* 5 November: 3 km of the Nishi-Kyushu Expressway (Imafuku - Tsukinokawa)
* 4 November: 35 km of the Tohoku-Chuo Expressway (Fukushima - Yonazawa)
* 22 October: 3 km of the Tokai-Kanjo Expressway (Yoro JCT - Yoro)

Several other projects are planned to open either before the end of the year or the end of fiscal year 2017, which ends 31 March 2018.
