The Corniche | Lambeth | 89m, 80m, 44m | 27, 24, 13 fl | T/O

New towers for the Albert Embankment designed by Foster & Partners.

Discovered this completely by accident while walking through the lobby of Hampton House where I work.

Overall they look quite good, the curves are good and it looks like they will be finsihed to a high standard, their green credentials are very good and they will provide new public space. The crowns of the towers could do with a bit of refinement though. I had a chat with ones of the guys there, he seemed quite confident that Lambeth would approve them, we talked about other schemes in London and in Vauxhall in particular, and he mentioned that the design for Vauxhall Cross Towers was being "pulled"! Which is a damn shame.

Here is a picture of the current Hampton House, which forms part of the great wall of Albert Embankment. Designed by Fredderick Gibbard, completed in 1959.

They look pretty good, but I'll hold off further judgment until I can see more detailed renderings. Judging by those images, however, it looks like the whole area could do with some serious improvement, and this one project alone will hardly make a dent.

Regarding Vauxhall Cross, does "pulled" mean they are being redesigned or the whole project canceled?

Not sure, I assumed it means a redesign.

They look very good imo. Quite 'futuristic'

But regarding this:

"and he mentioned that the design for Vauxhall Cross Towers was being "pulled"! Which is a damn shame."

I can't believe it

Hopefully it means they are going to be 'refined' or slightly redesigned but I doubt it.

I am REALLY upset about that

To follow on from what I said about the scheme after having a better look, despite not being particularly tall height wise, I think they will have lots of soar being next to the river. The reflection in the water will help too, and the building they are replacing is pretty horrible. This will be a huge improvement

Could possibly create a type of 'river gate' with the Millbank Tower

By the way official AGL heights are 40.05m, 75.85m and 85m.

As has been said, we will hopefully still get a similar scheme on site.

They look quite nice - reminds me a little of 51 Lime st with its steps & curves.

Any chance of getting pics from the side & rear Gaz??
Have these gone in for planning & if not when are they??

Could see a bit of development on this stretch of river going down towards Vauxhall, what with this, the Vauxhall tower hopefully starting in 08. I also noticed the other day the industrial estate/building opposite that had a 15-20 storey tower planned(pics posted ages ago cant remember where) was all boarded up. There's aslo a planned redevelopment of the fire brigades HQ just down the embankment nearby to this site.

Lets not speculate about Vauxhall cross from one comment- We will find out about that when the developers come forth with there plans whenever that may be.

good find - seem okay to me, I think the main plus point is that they break up the drudge and monotony of the current buildings along the south side of the river which are all virtually the same height and rather oppressive.

I hope the Vauxhall Cross rumour is no more than that......but if its from the mouth of one of the Foster & Partners guys.......

are they going to be offices or resi? They look like they should be resi, but that's just a gut feel.

Based on the floor counts, I would've thought resi.

tell me about... these things come in randomly, sometimes zilch for a while then it all piles up at once. been stacking news stories since last week that i can go on the record about now and at the same time getting stuff like the king edwards stuff and woods bagots... a lot of PRs are pitching me stuff now. some days i get 30+ emails!

i have dublins tallest building proposal here sitting on this h/d, what will be the fourth tallest building in the world for abu dhabi and so on, some incredible images of an atkins proposal in china... we have about 35 stacked up at the moment for release over the next couple of months.

Yes I should have mentioned it's a residential led scheme and I would assume shops on the ground floor which is definately needed here.

London lad, the 15-20 storey tower you mention, do you mean the Salamanca Tower U/C nearby? There is a thread which I haven't updated for age.

Also I wouldn't want to see the Fire Brigade HQ (8 Albert Embankment) demolished, it's one of the few remaining pre-war buildings on the Albert Embankment and not a bad art-deco-ish design. I have some photos of the Albert Embankment from the 50s (I think) in which the now demolished Woolworth HQ can be seen, very nice it was, I will put them up at some point.

Where is Goodmans Fields exactly? Is it a good sized, well designed tower?
