highway patrol cops, they often hide with speed cameras in the bush between
the carriageway, perhaps that's why they don't cut it, lol

the traffic on the Pretoria - Johannesburg Ben Schoeman highway can be as bad as this. Its often called the largest parking lot in the Southern Hemisphere.

image hosted on flickr

image hosted on flickr

and the other parking lot is the N3 to Kempton park

image hosted on flickr

this is what often happens to those attempting to dodge the Ben Schoeman highway traffic

image hosted on flickr

that same highway becomes peaceful on Sundays

Not sure how many, but i know they intend spending 22 billion rands (about $3 billion) on widening some highways, while joining others for shorter and swifter flow of traffic. Most of these will be targeting the current bottle neck areas and routes to 2010 venues. However the main transport solution appears to be the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems they are implementing in all three main host cities as well as the $3.5 billion Gautrain Rapid rail link being implemented in Joburg. Metrorail is also upgrading its trains which will also form part of the integrated transport network.
