New Street is dated and it is frustrating to see it like that. One of the things that is starting to frustrate me now about some of these public realm proposals (Church St Sq, Golden Square, Albion Square etc) is that there's no joined up thinking behind them. There's not something that connects all these or a grand vision as to how these spaces work.
Liverpool has a public realm masterplan which has been in the process of implementation for a few years now. It's seen the streets throughout the city centre repaved with high quality materials and there's a typology that threads through. Go to any German city and the same can be seen. If any improvements should be made to streets or squares in the city centre, it should be done as part of a wider plan so that the paving materials of one street don't clash with that of another (ie. where High Street meets New Street). If the paving being used to resurface Corporation Street matches that of what will be introduced around New Street station then it is these that the city should use as a template for the rest of the city centre.

Yeah. It has already been rebuilt, and just need positioning now. See http://www.buddmosaic.blogspot.co.uk...teel-work.html for a blog about its reconstruction.

Pieced together -JFK Memorial Mosaic
Birmingham Central As Birmingham gears up ready to celebrate St Patrick's Day with it's annual parade the route will see a new addition with the installation of the reconstructed JFK memorial on the corner of Floodgate Street and Digbeth High Street. The artwork was created following the Irish community's commissioning of Kenneth Budd to create an artwork following the President's assassination in 1963. The community raised £5,000 of donations and the artwork was installed in St Chad's Circus near to the Roman Catholic St Chad's Cathedral. It remained there until the redevelopment of St Chad's Circus when it was put in storage in 2007 following it's dismantling to allow the surface level road junction to be created. http://goo.gl/PHBup |

Saw the JFK mural last week, thought it looked really good, and adds to digbeth high street pretty much opposite the irish centre. I take it this is going to be it's final position? I can remember it in amongst all the concrete and pigeons in the old Bull Ring.
