How is the Main Street restoration project coming along? Are there any new pictures or updates on that front?

Also, how is Las Cruces overall in terms of visiting compared to Albuquerque or Santa Fe or even Roswell for that matter? Is there more to do in Las Cruces compared these other cities? Is it more of a college town? Retirement town? What are good places, restaurants, bars to go to etc.?

The Main St restoration project is in the final, southern phase which wraps up late this year. Since Las Cruces has both a good-size university as well as a lot of retirees, it's a real mix. In terms of visitor experience, Santa Fe ranks among the top places in the world, Albuquerque falls into that limited-stay driving destination category and Las Cruces is more like Albuquerque but since it's smaller, there's less to do. *But* Las Cruces is near El Paso and Juarez. (don't go to Juarez right now!) so for someone who likes variety, it's there. The high-end restaurants in Santa Fe are some of the best in the US, Albuquerque has a lot of choices and different cuisines, and Las Cruces has the best New Mexican joints in the state (because of the green chile). Bar-wise, Santa Fe sucks since it's all rich old hippies, Albuquerque has a rowdy downtown club scene and Las Cruces has the best student watering holes. As for Roswell, there realy isn't much there. The town used to be awesome decades ago with classic Main St Americana. But that's all gone and the locals all hang out at Wal Mart!
