Pakistan Wins in Adelaide

Pakistan is celebrating a rare tour win after beating Australia A by 13 runs with only eight balls to spare in the one-day match at Adelaide Oval.

Brad Haddin's clever, classy 129, with a six and 12 fours, off only 123 balls was the outstanding jewel in Australia A's 266 off 48.4 overs in reply to Pakistan's 8-279 off 50 overs.

Australia A seemed to be cruising to victory at 4-254 in the 45th over but then lost 6-12 off 24 balls in a chaotic finish that contained two run outs and wickets to Abdul Razzaq (one) and Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan (three).

Haddin was the ninth man out, run out attempting a second run. Compensating for scores of only six and four against the West Indies in Hobart last weekend, the Australia A captain/wicketkeeper/opening batsman had hurried to 50 (six fours) off 57 balls and 100 (one six, 10 fours) off exactly 100 balls.

He put on 31 with James Hopes (13) for the first wicket and also was the dominant partner in productive liaisons of 65 off 78 balls with Brad Hodge (30), 109 off 107 balls with David Hussey (44) and 44 off 51 balls with Dominic Thornely (16).

Hopes was caught by wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal in the sixth over, Hodge was bowled by Azhar Mahmood in the 19th, David Hussey was caught at short cover by substitute fieldsman Younis Khan in the 36th, left-hander Michael Hussey (five) was bowled by a superb leg-cutter from Razzaq in the 37th and Thornely was lbw to Razzaq in the 45th.

Australia A was 6-254 off 45.1 overs when Cameron White (0) was cruelly run out in the 46th over after having faced only one ball. Haddin drove leg-spinner Shahid Afridi and the ball deflected off the bowler's hand onto the stumps with White stranded out of his crease.

Damien Wright's departure, bowled by Rana for four, left the total at 7-260 off 46.3 overs, and then it was 8-264 off 48.1 overs when Nathan Hauritz (two) also was bowled by Rana.

Haddin's run out left Australia A at 9-266 off 48.3 overs and Rana ended the match with the next ball by having Shaun Tait (0) caught on the legside by Kamran.

Pakistan's innings was dominated by punishing half-centuries from Muhammad Hafeez and Razzaq, whose all-out aggression, with support from Afridi, ensured the tourists piled on 162, for the loss of three wickets, off the last 20.2 overs.

Hafeez hammered 61 (five fours) off 86 balls while Razzaq thrashed a stunning, unbeaten 89 (six sixes, four fours) off only 61 balls and was involved with Afridi (22) in a blistering seventh-wicket stand of 68 off just 33 balls.

Hafeez and Razzaq shared a sixth-wicket partnership of 68 off 76 balls to revive Pakistan's innings from 5-117 after Tait had removed captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and vice-captain Yousuf Youhana in the 28th and 30th overs.

Inzamam, who laboured for 10 off 40 balls, mishit a lofted drive to Hodge at deep mid off and Youhana (five) nicked a defensive push to Haddin, who had chosen to bowl first on a sound pitch in fine, warm conditions.

Inzamam was dropped on five when Haddin just failed to hang on to a diving catch low to his right off Hopes.

A back injury had kept Inzamam out of cricket since the first Test in Perth four weeks ago when he was dismissed for one and nought. He had made 16 against the WA Chairman's XI at Lilac Hill and four and 14 against WA in his only three innings before the first Test.

Pakistani openers Salman Butt and Yasir Hameed started brightly enough with a stand of 33 until left-hander Salman (15) edged a drive off Wright onto his stumps in the eighth over.

Kamran (11) left three overs later, pushing defensively at Mick Lewis and playing onto his stumps, and Pakistan slipped to 3-75 in the 16th over when Yasir (30) pulled a short ball from Wright straight to Michael Hussey at short midwicket.

Yasir, when 19 in the 14th over, had been dropped by Hauritz at third man off Wright.

Much later, Hafeez, on 60, was missed by David Hussey near the cover boundary off Lewis, but Hafeez added only one more run before he holed out to David Hussey at long on off Hauritz, who later caught Afridi at deep square leg off Hopes.

Game 1: Australia bt West Indies by 116 runs

MELBOURNE: Australia beat the West Indies by 116 runs in their Tri-series one-day cricket international at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.

Australia belted 301 for four off 50 overs with in-form batsman Damien Martyn smacking an unbeaten 95 runs off 92 balls. In reply the West Indies managed just 185 from 46.2 overs.

Martyn was well supported by Michael Clarke, who took on the role of opener in the absence of the rested Matthew Hayden, making 66 runs off 77 deliveries.

Captain Ricky Ponting, who partnered Clarke for most of his innings after opener Adam Gilchrist was dismissed for a rare duck, notched 78.

The West Indies lost early wickets in reply with Chris Gayle trapped lbw off Brett Lee for naught, Wavell Hinds run out for five and Ramnaresh Sarwan caught behind for four before captain Brian Lara briefly steadied the ship.

Lara's 56 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul with 46 offered resistance but when Lara was caught by Andrew Symonds off spinner Brad Hogg, the visitors' innings fell apart.

For Australia, Hogg caused most of the damage taking 5-32 while Lee took 3-36.

Wow !! What a great Victory that was ... Id lost complete hope, after seeing a listless bowlong performance ... and then Kamran Akmal scoring 124 and Shoiab Malik and Inzi scoring 60s ... great performance !! We got there with 3 overs to spare thats incredible !!

A bit of egg in my face actually ... because before the match i told Fahad that i thought Kamran Akmal was a crap batsman ... then he comes in and scores 124 !!

Ive got to go for a lecture guys, but if anyone can find pics and reviews then post them, otherwise ill be back in an hour and post them .

some of you "fans" make no sense to me. The team lost badly in the TEST series, it's known that they aren't all that good in test matches becuz of their youth and not playing enough Test matches. I have no complaints. in the ODI format? you gotta be stupid to think Pakistan is a bad team. They've won more than they've lost since woolmer picked up with inzi.

Team Matches Points Rating
1 Australia 37 5064 137
2 New Zealand 31 3718 120
3 Sri Lanka 37 4334 117
4 Pakistan 45 4918 109
5 England 28 3046 109
6 West Indies 28 2937 105
7 South Africa 29 2929 101
8 India 37 3639 98
9 Zimbabwe 32 1860 58
10 Kenya 8 204 26
11 Bangladesh 28 83 3

4th place while india hold 8th! 8th!@! what in the mindless world are you people complaining about?!@ they have beaten india 4 times in a row! 4 times including IN INDIA!@ lost to the aussies 3 times, yes, but all VERY CLOSE.. so grow up with this ignorant Pakistan bashing

PkPride ... thank you very very much for saying that, i could not have said it better myself. Some people on here .. PakistanUnited and Sultan in particular are extremely fickle ... In my humble opinion it reflects a lack of knowledge and interest in cricket in the first place. I know that i support and hope on Pakistan whether they are being battered or not.

Although its only light hearted, but it really does annoy the crap out of me when Pakistanis just start bashing their team because they lost ... not knowiing the detailed reasons or the background to that loss.

Ok that was the most pathetic match I've ever seen!

All out for 163, Iftikhar Anjum whoever he was 3 Overs for 22 Runs! Around 7 runs / over.

No Captaincy from Inzamam, man that guy sucks as Captain! He virtually let Michael Clarke get his Hundred, hell he could have told Salman Butt to bowl a No-Ball or a Wide so that Clarke wont get his hundred!

Mohammad Hafeez, goodlord that was such an easy catch!

You may think im going a little too overboard here but hell its about time we got organized and started performing better against "good" teams if you know what I mean!

it was a matter of time, really. a young team, who if they lose are threatened, could be killed! it's a sport people, get a grip@ the ignorant fans place the added problems. NOONE should have their homes burned down, or lives taken if they LOSE. but they still showed ALL of you over and over that they will fight till the end, they pulled it off with the w. indies, and took the bonus point away from them. i remember when in the asia cup when india got pounded by Pakistan BUT india fought to keep Pakistan from gttn that extra point, people blasted the team, now when they fight to save that point and make it, noone praises thier heart. NOW they beat the aussies. i dont care wat neone thinks or says, these guys play hard and deserve our support even WHEN they lose!

Mate ... no offence but you dont have the slightest clue about cricket. I dont care if we lose the next match i really dont. We have a young team ... one that is developing very nicely we managed to beat the aussies once and now we are in the finals ... that to me is a good tounament. Inshallah things will go well in the finals ... however to me its irrelavant. Go back and read PkPrides post ....

Anyway ... chill on the criticism yeah ... and then maybe i wont bludgeon ya
