Isn't that the reason why the A20 in Germany was built? To improve Mecklenburg-Vorpommern tourism?

In Latvia, we are going to reconstruct A2 into a expressway from Riga bypass till Sēnite.
The allowed traffic speed should be 110 km/h. Reconstruction should start next year and end in 2012.
Expressway is going to be 25 km long and it will cost 100 - 110 million lats.
More information (in english) about the project is here: http://www.lad.lv/en/?i=131

Tourism yes, but not only tourism. The Mecklenburg coast was always very popular (Rügen anyone?), and holiday traffic was clogging up the roads there, however the area was one of the poorest in Germany, with few businesses. They also build the A20 to improve the economy. Similar things can easily happen in the Baltic States.

Currently Latvia is going to build one motorway section untill 2013. Route E67 Via Baltica, road A7 Riga - Bauska - Lithuanian border (Grenctāle) section Riga - Ķekava. The new Ķekava bypass construction works are planned for 2007 - 2009.

EDIT: When I was there last time, I haven't seen any motorway construction!

If they build the motorway, of course.......
Btw, have tourism and economy really improved in MV? I'd like to go there in future, it looks like a beautiful biking area.

About the last pic: Is Warszawa through or via the exit with Marijampole? The sign isn't really clear on that.

I'd guess through, since it stands directly above the straight arrow.

I found the location on Google Earth, it's just north of Marijampole on the A5 near the exit with road 5101.

The A5 and A7 splits a few kilometers later on a cloverleaf. You can see the A7 is apparantly indirect signed hear because of the broken line around the road number, which is true, since the A7 starts a few miles south and heads for Kaliningrad.

It's not very clear to see which is a translation, and which is not.

There will probably never be a motorway from Tallinn to the Polish border. I think we won't even see a motorway between Tallinn and Pärnu in the next 25 years. Considering traffic density and traffic safety, there are many other roads that should be motorways before Via Baltica(Such as Tallinn ringroad, Tallinn-Tartu until Mäo). But since our economic situation is crappy(II quarter GDP "increase" was -1,4%), we can't even afford building those motorways.

Good complilation of pictures. So Riga motorway /expressway,1st quality road/ ring construction is advancing. What´s the main purpose of these sections, to divert the traffic from the center, or more likely to solve the traffic capacity in inner Riga?

Your absolutely right Timoth! It's purpose is to divert traffic from center and these sections with the Southern bridge will reduce traffic flow on Salu tilts (Island bridge) per 20%!
