More than 20 years ago I had the pleasure of living with a Palestinian family for several months whilst I was working on an archeological "dig" in eastern Jerusalem. The thread is a good one, but biased. It did not mention that of all the Arab peoples, Palestinians are amongst the most highly educated and cultured. About the "Zionist occupation" ... well, there are 2 sides to every story!!! Both Jews and Palestinian Arabs have a legitimate claim in that region! The Jews of the diaspora, whether they were Sephardi, Ashkanazi, Mizrachi, Romaniot (northern Greek), Cochin (western Indian), etc., etc., all have nearly identical DNA and the claim that modern day Jews are not related to the ancient Israelite people is pure RACIST rubbish. But the Palestinian people also have historical claim to the region. That is why there is a conflict going on over there! Do not the Palestinians deserve some kind of reparation for property that was taken from them? Do not Israelis have the right to live in peace and security without the terrorism? I could go on and on having visited and lived in the region the past 30 years ... but I must say that as an advocate of democracy I prefer the government of Israel over any of it's arab neighbors, which are mostly corrupt despotic regimes.
For the record, I am a Buddhist, and for me the "Holy Land" is Lumbini, Nepal - Bodh Gaya, India-Sarnath, India. While I am angry at the Muslim Taliban of Afganistan for destroying the lovely ancient collosal statuary of the Lord Buddha in Bamiyan, I do not blame this on the Palestinians.

Cochin is not the exact Western city of India, actually it is amoung the Southern cities of India, but on the western side of South India. Cochin is the major commercial city of the Kerala state in India.

"Port Kochi" is the place in Cochin (now KOCHI) where the Jews mostly found, a Jewish Church is Still there.

Mount Carmel
The Mount Carmel region near the city of Haifa, Palestine contains several of the most famous Neanderthal sites in the middle east.
Haifa is on the Carmel, not near it (unless you are talking about 80 years ago were only the low places were populated, and then the name 'Haifa, Palestine' will be a lot more appropriate given the time period).

zohar you ashkenazi jews are from eastern europe you are khazar jews who have no relation to the hebrews and also khazar jews trace their roots to turkish/mongol roots so you guys should get out of palestine and forget it !!! you never belonged there! if you want turkey has its arms open for all kinds of turks even khazar/ashkenazi jews so stop wasting time and go where u belong!
You just made me go pack my stuff and head for Alaska like Iran's president suggested us to...lol.

Yes this place has some fascinating history, whether the thread should be called "Palestinian History..." is very arguable and I'm sick of arguing on these hopeless topics. It's time that people will accept that the country I'm writing from is (at least in the last 60 years) Israel, and have peaceful relations without all this hate.

I actually biked in Megido yesterday, beautiful place.

Yes, I know. I have been there. There still is a section in the old part of town called "Jewtown" and the street that runs through it is "Jewtown Road." The Jews of Cochin - Kochi - were mainly engaged in the Black Pepper trade. Jews pray in buildings called synogogues NOT churches. There is still one active synogogue there, in a city where there once a hundred. There are something like 14 Jews left in Kochi ... nearly the entire community packed up and emigrated to Israel shortly after Israeli independence so that they can dwell in their ancient homeland.

Seems like who ever started this tpathetic hread is shooting them selves in the foot.
They claim 100,000 years of Palestinan existance in todays Israel and even archelogical proof; yet NOT A SINGLE ruin can be attributed to them as it was either built by the Jews during the biblical times or the Roman's (who were not semetic). A 100,000 years, and not a single coin or a document that mentions the Palestinians (exluding the non semetic ancient Philistins), not a capital city or a king or a monument with the world palestinian.
To claim that the Palestinians are the descendants of the Canaanites is to claim that Turks are the descendants of the Germans. The Palestinians are ARABS, always were and always will be!

100 000 years of Palestinian existence or 100 years, It gives you no right to barge in and kick them out of their homes. And to claim that Israelis come from Israel is to claim that ''Turks are the descendants of Germans''. You're comment and existence would be valid if the REAL Israelis 2000 years ago live in Israel. There are no real Israelis in this world anymore after all the cultural mix up, did you forget about that in Israel's historical books??? The REAL Israelis were and always will be GONE.

Don't take this as offense, but the least you can do is give us one thread on this forum that we can keep things in peace and talk about the history, culture and archaeological sites of Palestine.
