The cost of the Karachi-Hyderabad motorway seems to have been downgraded significantly, that does not bode well for the quality of the project. I want to see it at the quality level of M1 and M2, but unfortunately, in earlier reports the cost was cited as 25 billion rupees, now it's down to 6 billion

Islamabad is surely a candidate for most badly planned planned city in the world. It has a grid of vastly oversized boulevards on a 2 km grid, usually with a central roadway flanked with intermittent two-way frontage roads. Where two such corridors cross, the result is a cluster of at-grade intersections that are spaced so closely that each interferes with the operations of the others, as seen in the link above. The intersections can be grade separated; I suppose that five-level stacks like the ones in Houston would be the ideal solution, but not even Texas can afford to build them every 2 km. Instead, as shown here, they've built interchanges for the central roadways that disrupt the continuity of the frontage roads, some of which have become important corridors in their own right, like the one running left-right in the rendering above.

The properties served by the intersection shown above are now among the most accessible in the city. After the new interchange is built, they won't be, due to loss of direct access from Ninth Avenue. The same thing has happened and will happen again at other locations in the city. To me, it would've been a lot smarter to plan a road network to which adequate capacity could be added without disrupting established traffic patterns.

Or am I being too pessimistic?
