Colombian side of Darien Gap road to be built?

I found an interesting article about an infrastructure share offering intended to finance several major projects, including, with the approval of the Colombian government, construction of a roadway to complete the Colombian side of the Darien Gap of the Pan-American highway. The article mentions that the recent settling down of rebel activity in the area is making this project more attractive.

Interesting.

Any thoughts?

Colombian high(?)ways are getting better, tho there's still a lot to be done. I'd give anything to see a tunnel between Bucaramanga and Bogota, something to solve the Pescadero problem, and an actual concrete road from Bucaramanga to Málaga, as well as an actual road between Quibdó and Medellin.

I agree with Adrimm that tthere needs to be a focus on connecting the small towns by replacing the dirt roads with actual roads. But it's nice to see we're improving.

How much is $ 700,000 million? (seven hundred thousand million).

Are these dual carriageways full motorways (autopistas) or do they have intersections instead of interchanges?

Nice work. Are there full grade-separated Autopistas between larger cities? As far as I can tell from Google Earth imagery it appears most intercity connections are not grade-separated. Most Bogotá Autopistas do appear to be full standard with bus transit facilities.

No highways in cities are at ground level and have even crossing traffic lights until you mention. So, what is done to improve mobility?

First, the highways which have parallel decongest traffic (public, trucks, etc.) And cars can go in the center lines without a problem to traffic.

image hosted on flickr

Highway ............................................................................Parallel

Second, in the cities there are many overpasses (bridges) that avoid most jams.

Third, utility lines tend to become trunk bus lines with dedicated lane BRT, maximizing the efficiency of these.

The ideal that was long in the city was to prioritize the pedestrian, bicycle and any conveyance friendly people. What trsite is that the road network has not increased significantly, whereas the use of vehicles has doubled in 10 years.
