that's a mighty impressive erection you have their schemie.

and I've nabbed it for my livejournal.
wtf? why would you want Oliphant Court for your livejournal! it looks so drab on its own! and a more pressing issue is your Yorkshire turn of phrase do they all call photos erections in Wakefield!? I can imagine the conversations... "aye, these girls made me take an erection of them. They said it was a good erection and took it home to keep."

they demolished 4. In the black and white photo note the one on the left. Apparently that came down in '96.

Ramshead Heights, Seacroft, Leeds

this must be my favourite block of all time. I love the lean of the building. Seacroft has some truly brutal towerblocks

Parkway Towers, Seacroft, Leeds - I've been in this building, work used to take me there every Thursday (community support, not rentboy). The tenants cause so many problems that the block has its very own area housing office situated in one of what would have been a ground floor flat. As you walk in through the main entrance there's some sort of brown GOO dripping from the ceiling of the communal hall. No one seems worried as to what the GOO might be. It is safe to urinate in the lifts cuz the CCTV in the lifts are there for cosmetic reasons only.

The sounds of AKON - LONELY and IS THIS THE WAY TO AMARILLO emanate from the building.

Wow aladdin thanks so much for those pictures of the Kirkgate blocks! Now we know what they looked like before - not as concretey as I thought they would be.

Belfastbap welcome to the forums! You need to put those addresses in between

No, when a thread gets locked you can still view it, you just can't post in it. If it gets deleted there would be trouble.

glad you approve Mr Butterfield. I too like them as they are now. I think they needed this look to pull it off. Anything less, I feel would have failed. Bearing in mind everyone wanted them gone, I think the refub went very well.

The lumps 'n' bumps on them show up better now. What sort of person lives there now, aladdin? Are they privately owned?

more Leeds

Appleton Square(and custard), Ebor Gardens, Leeds

Ebor Gardens went through regeneration in the early 1990's. Before, the estate was a no go area. I was offered a flat in the now demolished Oxton Close. I'd have been on the 7th floor. Great flat but the day I started to move in, that night my flat got done over and they stole a horrid orange coloured electric stove I'd had given. It was a blessing is disguise really. I decided not to move. One year on they demolished the block.

Highways, Gipton Leeds

Lidgett Towers, Gledhow, Leeds

can't find any stats on these blocks.

one or two are on the "right to buy" scheme. Wakefield Council Housing was transferred, ownership and management to Wakefield District Housing in 2005; 31,000 homes were transferred making it the single largest stock transfer at that time. Most transfers end up being estates on their own, not the whole stock of a city. This released 750 million in government funds (I think came from housing stock sales) which is now being invested in a huge regeneration of every property WDH own. I was done out last year!!

As for what sort of person? Pretty much anyone. I know one or two of the blocks are for elderly people, and I think the general rule is that you need to be over 40 to live in any of them.

every photo I've seen of it, from any angle, it has that lean to it. I've walked past it a few times but you don't look too much or you get abuse shouted at you and then the riots start followed by the singing. The singing is by far the worst!!

I know, I want to be right on top. I'm low rise and ground floor.

Still though, I do have gas central heating.
