Some news I probably forgot to say is that BWP will be lit up pink this week for Breast Cancer Awareness. So I read in the paper anyway. I expect it'll just be the same as usual but constantly pink instead of changing colours.

The nomination for Bridgewater Place is ridiculous + Broadgate Tower? Eh?. They really haven't tried hard enough if they think those are the worst buildings completed within this last year, although some on the list do deserve it.

Fucking ridiculous to nominate this building for the CBC. What a joke!

Come on though, Bridgewater is a bit of a grim bitch. The picture on that website is it's best angle! From the side and back it looks awful.

Behave!!!!!! BWP is a fantastic building and unlike a lot of the buildings that have been built recently I think it will age well!

I like Broadgate in general but the diagonal criss-crossing is a bit clumsy I think. It should have been decreased in scale. BWP is a good building, definitely not a carbuncle.

I always think the plant floors look uncompleted. But it improves the entrance to the city massively, and there is a very good view of the tower from the back of the atrium.

Im a massive fan of BWP, and have struggled to find an angle in which it doesn't look great!!! I also love it because it was the Genesis of the Leeds high rise boom pretty much, and will hopefully encourage many more other buildings 100m+ to plant their foundations in Leeds!!!

I guess one thing about Bridgewater Place was the removal of the spire which if it was included would surely have acted a bit of a crown to the top of BWP and would have given more visual prominence. Was there any reason ever given in public for not including the spire?

Still it is imo a decent enough building.

I think they ran out of money, and the cost for the spire was too expensive to include at the final construction stage. Its a great shame, would have topped it off perfectly. Maybe BT or Virgin will come along and put a big telecommunications mast on top which would do the job.

Would the spire have made BWP an 'official' skyscraper.. or is 40ft for a spire too much to ask (i'm not really good with imagining measurements).. any way if so, i'm guessing some one from Manchester complained

Seriously tho, just jesting, don't want to kick off another Leeds vs Manchester debate.

But who knows maybe it could make a return in the form of 'fins' to sort out the wind tunnel?

Being over 100m, it is a skyscraper. As for wind problems, tree planting would break the force of the wind up quite a bit.

I thought for a building to be classified as an 'official' skyscraper it had to measure 150m, hence Mancunian claims of having the only 'real' skyscraper outside London..?

Yes, even I hope that Leeds is getting some attention atlast . I hope this will lead to the increase of th eprice in property at Leeds. Leeds is the best to invest now, as of now the prices were decreasing in the UK market , expected to decrease more in new year. I hope we could get property at an low price over here.

Well no there isn't any official thing. But in the UK 100m+ is widely accepted as skyscraper. 150m is the next obvious benchmark so it's just something to try and make Beetham sound better if it's the only skyscraper.
