I can imagine this thing in, say, the middle of Kuala Lumpur... It will completely dwarf the Berjaya Times Square Hotel block with the huge size!

WHAT?! You mean the building was designed to not have elevators? EVERY skyscraper in the world should have elevators and I have never seen a skyscraper without them.

Wow, the building already has blue cladding? What a refreshing change to that abandoned tower!

If i had my way, i would prefer to have a foreign operator to manage the hotel, e.g. Hilton or even Intercontinental...

Perhaps they're just cladding it to make it less of an eye-sore

There are only a few buildings in the world that get such a strong reaction out of people. This is one of them. I'm completely fascinated by it.

Too bad the original Ryugyong blended with the concrete skyline. Now with this glass cladding it will stick out!

Apparently, yes, but all three sides need to be cladded in the finished building. The podium, too, also needs cladding.

We visited Pyongyang a few months ago and took this pic out of our hotel room of the still U/C Ryugyong Hotel. Apparently some Arab money is working on it but the North Korean guides don't even mention the building despite it looming over almost every view in the city. Whiel it is odd looking it seems that Renzo Piano copied the design for his "shard" building in London. We visited North Korea after selling all our stuff to travel around the world for a year. You can see more at: http://www.changesinlongitude.com/ca...-korea-travel/

Cheers!

Larissa and Mike

I wouldn't go as far saying that the Shard is a copy of the Ryugyong Hotel because except for the basic triangular shape, they don't share any features.
Anyway, I think this could be one of the best Hotels, even surpassing the Burj Al Arab in design in my opinion. Shame it's located in that country because it could become a staple.
I'm totally looking forward to seeing it finished.
