But if theres a barrier in the middle of the roads, the cars wont collide.

The 1+5 road looks like.. perhaps a 2+3 road if you look at the direction of the cars on that road.

Hybrid 87, Here they just rebuild all broad 1+1 roads into tighter 2+1.

And can someone explain the benefit of a 1+3 road compared to a 2+2 road?

In NZ there is clear priority given to 1 direction. Although motorists can overtake in both directions, the one direction has clear priority as shown in these pictures.

This English road looks like a disaster waiting to happen

I was always fascinated..in GB(and other left-hand driving countries) are there right-hand rule, or left-hand rule?

I'd say it's left-hand rule for sure.

Really dangerous, people probably just don´t drive on the middle one as they don´t know to which direction it belongs.

A midle lane that can be used for both directions seems indeed like a really dangerous and stupid think to be done.

Here in Portugal there are several 2+1 roads, but it's really 2+1 (meaning 2 lanes for one direction and 1 lane for the other, and the ones in the direction with only 1 lane are forbiden to overtake). It works quite well, as long as there's a minimum respect to what signaled.

Hmm that English road would work I guess, if it had a dynamic lane control system hehehe..

2+1 roads are generally popular on steep inclines to prevent trucks and heavier vehicles from slowing down the traffic. They are usually put on roads where there is a lot of traffic as a temporary relief before a motorway is built or just to make the traffic move on inclines..

it is, but i wouldn't be happy if i should drive in that "1" direction behind a truck doing 70 or 80, while you can do much faster

^But you don't have to do it for long. It's not like 2 lanes is one one side always. Have you even seen how big the traffic density is on that road? I suggest you watch chris' video. You could never overtake there without an extra lane.

The whole idea is that there is 2 km of 2+1, and then 2km of 1+2, so both directions have safe overtaking opportunities from time to time.

I think you can't consider 2+1 as an alternative for a motorway, since the capacity of a 2+1 road is only marginally higher than for a normal road.
