Because that's how is counted usually, probably because it was delivered after the fall of communism, as opposed to Bucharest-Pitesti.

Anyway, I see that Google gives other distances.

I don't know why you guys count the Piteşti bypass separately. It is a continuous extension of the older A1 to Piteşti.
agree. Pitesti bypass is just an extension of A1. So if we add 95.6 A1 proper + 13.6 (belt)= 109.2 km. The official count includes also a portion of 10-12km -normal city boulevard inside Bucharest but if you count only the proper motorway (after you see the city border and the motorway sign) left only 95.5- 96 km plus the belt of Pitesti.

Strabag signs 220 million Euros contract in Romania

Romanian National Company for Motorways and National Roads (CNADNR) signed a 220.6 million Euro contract for a motorway-like ring road in western Romania.

The Transport ministry said the contract was signed with the association of Strabag AG-SC Strabag SRL-SC Straco Grup companies, to build a ring of 32.8 km to pass by Deva-Orastie, at motorway standards.

The road sector is part of the pan-European corridor IV Constanta-Bucharest-Nadlac and its financiers are European. The European Commission is providing 133.6 million Euros of the total sum needed for building it.

The road sector should be finished in 24 months.

The Transport Ministry said this was the largest contract that the EU has financed so far.

The first auctions for the construction of this road sector were organized back in 2006, but various contests made by the auction's participants postponed it until now.

It was just announced today that there will be another (attempt at) opening this weekend. Hopefully flowers will be nice and fresh and birds will be singing in the sky etc etc.

Yeah! Great achievement, 10 more kilometeres of highway! Amazing results, unheard of! No other country in the world has so much kilometers of highway! The Prime Minister himself will do the honours! Maybe we'll get even a national holiday to honour our newest 10 km. Maybe next we'll go to the moon. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! I bet Germans are biting their nails off with invy.

No, I'm simply pissed off.

On one hand, Romania should have built motorways at a rate of at least 50 km / year between 1990 and 2010. Just do the math and we would have had at least 1000 km of motorway by now. Romania had the money to do that, shouldn't they have been stollen away.

On the other hand, treating the opening of 10 km like this would be some kind of national great achievement, which should make us nationally proud, is absolutely ridiculous! It's like a bachelor of science would expect credit from the crowd for solving a second degree equation.

The Prime Minister of the country is not representing himself. Beside being the executive chief of the goverment, he's a symbol of the country. He's representing me. And his act means that I'm proud of 10km in the middle of nowhere. And I'm absolutely not! In his position, the Prime Minister should only attend symbolic and really great openings. In terms of motorway, it should mean opening of a 100 km stretch of motorway between Sibiu and Pitesti. Or the opening of the final stretch of 10km out of a link between Bors and Brasov, meaning the completion of the whole motorway. Or anything else of a real importance.

We're so much used to nothing happening in this part of Europe, that when finally something insignificant happens, we feel that we should celebrate. 10 km between Campia Turzii and Turda it's a stretch that should even not have an official openening. There should only be a newspaper column about it "as of tomorrow, you can use the new stretch". At most, should there be an opening, the top official should be the regional manager of the CNADNR, as this stretch is, for the moment, exclusively of local importance.

Someone was joking yesterday: "The ribbon they'll cut on Saturday is longer then the stretch they'll be opening".

I though that's plain obvious and it's been discussed gazzilion of times that it makes me sick already when I see this argument pasted from person to person over and over again. I think we should get more original and not replicate observations which are more than redundant already and boring.

Yeah. I also get sick when is see governmental butt kissers, but hey, it's a free country. I shouldn't care why you get sick, you shouldn't care why I get sick. That's the beauty of democracy...

By the way, did you thought that maybe we're so many unhappy people with the repetead failures of our governments, that the arguments keep repeating themselves naturally? Or you can only think that we're just a buch of conspierers?

So, when you run out of arguments you start pointing fingers at people on the forum? Well done!

PS: Maybe you didn't notice my post on the 10 km opening but I was also ironic at the government.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you called me hysteric earlier?

If you want to debate opinions, we can debate. And my opinion is that this government is not the kind one should treat with fine irony. They don't get it or don't care or both, even when you smash the real problems into their face. And further, also in my opinion - which of course, is not necesarely the right opinion - it is stupid that there are people really happy about 10 km of motorway. Maybe I would understand the people who actually live nearby Turda. For them is a live improvement. But all the others happy about this stretch, I don't understand and I don't want to. I am ashamed that my Prime Minister gets that low, down to the point where he's opening an ingsinificant stretch.

I'm not stupid - or so I think I know that actually it's a continuous electoral campaign. But there are too many people in Romania still biting into this campaign.

OK. Go on on being reiterative. I don't have time for this. It's not like I am being told breaking news, if you didn't notice that so far.

So you keep saying.... while keeping on replying. You should make up your mind.

I don't mind being reiterative, as long as people arround me keep mistaking what should be common with national pride. In case you haven't noticed, mirrors are not a bad thing to use...

Dude, you're nuts! Who the heck is talking about national pride here??

I was just replying to Chris' question when you bumpted in with this flash and lights and flat boring joke on how idiot the government is and then noticed how an ass kisser I am, though you only noticed I was being ironic at the government when I explained the irony to you literaly. Don't you see you are way offtopic and annoying?

Let's return to motorways, will ya?

Well, I am talking about national pride. Do I have to you ask for your permission before I do?! Didn't found that among the rules of the forum.
