Only a 27 km part near Lugoj of Lugoj - Deva motorway is tendered, not the entire 99 km motorway.

Yes, you are right. I now checked the electronic tender website and it seems the media got it wrong. At least the article I read.

For Nadlac - Arad section (38,8km) CNADNR just started the tendering process which is suposed to be completed in mid march 2011 when they will sign the contract with the constructor. If noone will challenge the result the building could start in mid summer earilest For the rest (Timisoara- Lugoj, Lugoj-Deva, Sibiu- Orastie) i couldnt find any news. If we are lucky they could start the building next autumn or even early 2012

And here is an early XMas gift from the famous secret source: the latest update from A4-Constanta bypass! Say "thank you", maybe we'll receive some more gifts.

Enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bridge km 0+152 near Ovidiu during beam instalation

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The same bridge km 0+152 after 1-2 days. All the beams are installed!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Curved bridge km 5+644 at Poiana roundabout interchange during casting of the deck

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The same bridge km 5+644 after a few days

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The opposite twin bridge at km 5+740. Hoping to cast the deck this year.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brdige km 4+409 - all the beams are installed!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bridge km 8+290 - the beams are delivered and will be installed in position the following days

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bridge km 2+436 overpass over motorway. All the reinforcement is done including post-tensioning (the silver thick ducts) cables. Hoping to cast this year.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bridge km 11+184 over DN3 in the interchange. This is the bridge on Ovidiu-Agigea direction. The formwork is completed and the reinforcement work is started.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The same bridge km 11+184 on the other direction Agigea-Ovidiu. Altough the bridges are separate, this bridge km 11+184 is probably the widest in Romania (10 traffic lanes) and it is as big as a football field (aprox 80X50).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some drainage works in the area around km 5. Also the top soil has been completed and the downshutes. You can also see the nice fresh asphalt.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The same km 5. The equipment with slip is for casting the shoulder gutter.

Hope you liked your early gift.

Today the National Road Company published tender documents for Orastie-Sibiu (82 km) and Lugoj-Timisoara (35 km) of C IV. There's a a remaining section of 63 km to be tendered from C IV under the TEN-T financing programme:

In red: already tendered (to be opened in 2013/2014).

In blue: to be opened in 2011 and 2012.

Just a simple calculation:
Nadlac-Arad 5.94mln/km
Timisoara-Lugoj 5.97mln/km
Lugoj-Deva 9.63mln/km
Deva-Orastie 6.71mln/km
Orastie-Sibiu 8.52mln/km

My prediction is that the contracts will be sealed at much lower prices.
Which means even more tenders could be held

Could you say me what would be faster if the A1 Timisoara-Arad would be finished:
1. Szeged-Cenad-Timisoara or
2. Szeged-Nadlac-Arad-Timisoara on A1

1. Szeged - Cenad - Timisoara: 112 km, aprox. 1h40m (I made 2h15m this week but it was snowing)

2. Szeged - Nadlac - Arad - Timisoara:
  • (considering M43 Szeged - Nagylak and A1 Nadlac - Arad - Timisoara completed - maybe in 2013) aprox. 130 km - 1h
  • right now (with no motorway) this route has 152 km and it would be made in about 2h30m

It may be the case that the contracted price will be lower indeed. These are estimated prices which are usually above the contracted ones.

I do not know if the money left could be used for other sections on A1, but that's not excluded considering that the Commission accepted to fund 20 km in between Pitesti and Valcea which was not before considered under EU funding.

But next year there should be more tenders on A1, A3 (and A5), hopefully.

from what you are discussing now, it looks like you are very positive about road construction in Romania. aren't you afraid some of the plans, which are on board now will not come into being ?

the reason I am asking is that in Poland all future tenders are somehow on hold - no money in Polish budget - we are entering the crisis phase

You already have about 1300 km of motorways and expressways u/c. Isn't that enough for now? I don't think that a country can manage more every 1-2 years.
