No seriously, it's not that I don't want Transylvania Motorway, but I would somehow disagree with eurocopter about the traffic values. Yes, Câmpia Turzii-HU border and a bypass for Târgu Mureş, Cristeşti and Ungheni are very, very necessary due to the high traffic level. Other than those, to quote him:

But yes!!! Comarnic-Braşov crossing through the mountains should be the main priority for every government, no matter how expensive would that be.

Yep, we prefer to remain isolated from the rest of the world ( we don't have not a single motorway, reaching any of our border crossings, and no such will be build soon ).

Neither do we, but hopefully that might change in a couple of years.

Development Ministry seeks builders for 1,400 km of roads with 436m euros

The Regional Development and Tourism Ministry (MDRT) is tendering modernisation and rehabilitation works for 1,386 km of county and local roads of eight counties, with the total estimated value of these projects amounting to 1.78bn lei (436.6m euros), VAT not included.

Thus, on average, one kilometre of county or local road, modernised or rehabilitated, will cost 315,000 euros, VAT not included.

The eight counties included in this tender, divided into four packages, are Covasna, Braşov, Caraş Severin, Mehedinţi, Brăila, Galaţi, Tulcea and Constanţa and the works are expected to be completed in 2013.

The investments are part of the National Infrastructure Development Programme estimated at around 3.3bn euros, the biggest tender in Romania's history in terms of value.

Unlike other infrastructure works, the programme will be initially funded by builders and starting 2013 the future governments will cover the value of works as they are finalised.

Agreed!

BTW: do you still have that traffic map?

As for the other projects without EU funding, I think the priority will be the following: whichever gets PPP funding first, that will become a "priority".

if you want to attract foreign investments in north east (moldova) you need to build motorways. As most of the foreign investments are linked with EU market how long do you estimate for a truck to reach the western border coming from Iasi? 2 days! and no comment about crossing the mountains during the winter..
So moldova needs this link Ungheni- Iasi- Tg Mures in order to attract major investments

Hello,

can someone tell me when the construction of the motorway from Nadlac to Arad will begin? Is it realistic that it will be ready in 2012?

Even if it would begin today, there is no way it could be opened in 2012. If construction would start before the summer, late 2013 seems realistic. I'd count on 2.5 years for construction.

Thank you Skynick for the awesome shots! It must have been quite a thrill to go there by enduro motorbike.

I am looking to buy a professional MTB and as soon as I get it, I'll go there too.

If someone is still interested what A3 and Bechtel are doing:

Quote:
Romania, Bechtel Negotiating Deadline Past 2012 For Transylvania Hwy - Sources

Romania's Transport Ministry and public road authority CNADNR have begun negotiations with Bechtel on a new calendar for the construction of the Transylvania Highway, with new deadlines past the current December 2012.

Because of budgetary constraints and delays in paying for work carried out in 2010, Bechtel has slowed down the work and reduced the size of the construction crews on site.

The Transport Ministry, CNADNR and Bechtel are in negotiations regarding a payment schedule, cost standards and work resumption. Once these issues are cleared, a new calendar and deadlines can be set, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

The construction of the Transylvania Highway, which links central Brasov to western Bors on the Hungarian border, began in 2004 with a EUR2.2 billion contract awarded to U.S. constructor Bechtel. Work was halted in mid-2005, when Romanian authorities started looking into contracts signed by the previous administration. The project's deadline was extended to the end of 2013 from 2012.

The highway is designed to be 415 km long, but only 10% has been built so far.

Transport Minister Anca Boagiu said recently, in an interview with Ziarul Financiar, that the ministry has no money for Bechtel, "at least until the summer's budget revision."

According to the investment file included in the ministry's budget for this year, the project is to receive a further 8.5 billion lei (EUR2.085 billion), out of a total RON12.7 billion, approved initially.

Last year, the ministry paid Bechtel RON965.1 million, including RON867.8 million in debts from 2009.

A recent ministry document said this year's budget provides RON148 million for the Transylvania Highway, while debts stood at more than RON600 million at the end of last year.

The document also said the state owes Bechtel EUR104 million. Penalties for late payment amount to EUR2.28 million.
Source

The initial deadline for the entire TM was 2012.

Skynick, so the B-Moara Vlasiei sector will be 3x3? There were some rumors the sector will be 2x2.

Based on historical recordings, its very probable that not the putative accident is the cause of the congestion, but the limited capacity of city entrances at this moment.
Such things happen at other entrances too.

PS Skynick thanks for photos but please dont put too many photos on a single post.

That BMW is lightly damaged, and this is no reason to block the traffic. This is normal jam during holiday rush hour on A2.
