That motorway section is supposed to link Timisoara (and indeed all western Romania) to Belgrade and further to Montenegro and Italy, and not necessarily Bucharest to Belgrade, though it'll be a good connection once CIV (south section) will be completed. In all earnest, the Timisoara-Belgrade connection will shift the RO-IT(/HR) traffic (very important considering Italy's the second economic partner to Romania) from M5-M0-M7 in Hungary, through Belgrade and further to Croatia and finally Italy.

But you are right, for now the route through Calafat-Vidin (once the bridge is completed) is shorter.

I made my comment just because it is presented as Bucuresti-Italy road It's sure that nobody from Timisoara or Hungary will travel through Carpati mountains east to Craiova, and then south through the bridge.

Oh, that's just a journalistic representation. The real meaning of the section is indeed the Timisoara-Belgrade-Bar-Bari connection.

There are some pics on the Romanian forum but I think there are some delays to it. The bridge should be over by end next year, but it's not clear the contractor can meet the deadline.

Btw is it worth driving to Belgrade Airport if live Southwest of Timisoara? Hmmm I think it's a nice idea to link both countries, but I wonder if Timisoara airport will suffer from some competition. We have lot of flights that Romanians do not have in Timisoara because Wizz air goes after Serbian diaspora. What's your opinion on this? I am asking because Belgrade Airport is booming, and will hit 3.2M this year easly...

As you may know, Timisoara is a regional hub in itself (not only a Romanian hub), routing traffic coming from Ukraine or Moldova, but only for European short routes, and is also a base for a regional low-cost carrier (Carpatair). While it covers pretty well Central Europe and South Europe, it also lacks some major routes such as Western Europe (first of all France and UK), but also the long routes. That could be a real good potential for Belgrade airport which will be an only 1 h drive after this route is completed.

I believe the two airports business will not interfere, since the Romanian diaspora it's differently located around Europe (easily confirmation by verifying the Wizzair destinations of BEG vs TSR)
On the other hand, the Tesla BEG airport could be interesting for the Romanians situated in the western region of Romania and not only from Timsioara - for direct overseas connections.
So, in this case, the planned Timisoara-Belgrade motorway will be very helpful for them, since many are still preferring the Budapest airport for such destinations, at this moment.

Don't be confused: Carpatair is still a line operator and not a LFA (low-cost) one.
Carpatair has introduced experimentally a TSR-Paris(CDG) flight in 2006-2007 but it was cancelled due to the low demand.

Completely in agreement!

Then it's much better!

It's still surprising a Timisoara-Paris (daily?) flight doesn't work.

In those days, the same destination offer of Austrian was better than the Carpatair one.
In these days, which operator could compete with the Wizzair's one?!

Vicious destruction of an embattled and rezilient building in the face of impending modern progress!
